El Nopal Mexican Cuisine — Restaurant in New Albany

The employees are friendly. I ordered 3 enchiladas, one beef, one chicken, and one cheese. They brought me two chicken and one ground beef. I I'm not kidding you, the ground beef looked more like something out of a can of dog food than actual ground beef. It tasted better than it looked but definitely had a mushy odd texture. I would be very surprised if it is actually ground beef rather than some soy concoction. The chicken ones were good. The enchilada sauce was more of a sweet sauce with no spice. I prefer something a little spicy but it complimented the chicken well anyway. My husband ordered the carnitas and it was good. The meat was tender but slightly over-blackened on the outside. Not a terrible flaw, just not perfect. I'd rate the carnitas a 4, the chicken enchiladas a 3 and the ground beef enchilada a 2. The service was a 4. My wife wanted el nop and we normally go to the el Nopalito in Corydon but I was in Jeffersonville and on my way home and this one was closer. First I was like how does a el nopal get 3 stars on yelp but I still proceeded and ordered our food. I got 3 soft tacos 1 chicken 2 beef. Wife got the basic white girl. Chicken rice and cheese. My tacos had no flavor and the meat had the consistency of Taco Bell meat like they watered it down. I will never return to this one. Within the time of COVID, dining-in at restaurants are few and far in-between and the customer service is valued much higher than before. I went in a little before lunch time ended and there were a total of 5 people including me in the entire restaurant. I waited a few minutes before being seated. The gentleman was nice enough but I wouldn't say friendly. I haven't heard the best things about this particular chain and I see why. I ordered a chicken chimichanga from the lunch menu for 8.50.
