Mead Memorial Park — Attraction in New Canaan

Mead Park, my favorite park in town is a tranquil peaceful place to spend your day. From watching Swans 🦢 glide in the beautiful blue waters to playing tennis on the well maintained courts, Mead Park is a fabulous place to relax. When the town of New Canaan has an extended power outage, we gather in Mead Park for a delicious 😋 catered dinner provided free of charge. Recently a local architect donated his time and talents to build a small snack bar/restaurant on the grounds. It’s a wonderful little restaurant with hot dogs 🌭 and other sandwiches. Sit on the wooden benches by the pond to eat your lunch, watch the swans 🦢or simply pass the time in a beautifully wooded setting. Children love ❤️ playing in Mead Park it’s so much fun and near everything in town. Baseball fields with special play areas for children make the park the perfect family destination. The park is amazing from fields to green space to the playground. The food bar is amazing, a great place for snacks, meals, and the fruit smoothies are a must-have.

The one star reduction, which should probably be more, is due to the racial and explicit engravings on the playscape young and impressionable children play on daily. For a community that is well educated and appears open and accepting to differences, this was a troubling find with my 5-year-old and 20-month-old playing this week. I would expect better...

The playground is awesome and both areas (one for toddlers, one for older kids) are safe. Too bad that grown-ups leave their coffee cups on the ground, making this place a little less aesthetic than it could be. Someone should be given the job to clean up there periodically or maybe the park administrator could place a garbage bin or two closer to the play area (but then again, bees and flies could be quite a pest and a threat in summer... Either way, something should be improved about the upkeep of this...
