Generally, I have had good experiences at the Broad Theater. Yesterday was one of the worst movie going experiences I have ever had however. We unwittingly purchased tickets to an accessibility showing with subtitles. No worries, I am fully supportive of this accommodation. However when the captions were not initially working, the movie was restarted after 15 or so minutes. The captions still did not function. At this point the hearing impaired in the audience left the theater for a refund. When the movie was restarted again, the captions worked but with a 20 minute delay between caption and action creating a persistent distraction. A refund was offered for those who left the movie, but having made the trek to the theater and being in seats with popcorn and drinks, we stayed despite the distraction. More should have been done to avoid this type of issue. The theater potentially violated the Americans with Disabilities Act by failing to produce the accommodations promised and certainly frustrated a full theater of those who just wanted to watch the film, accurately subtitled or not. Please do better in the future Broad. In the future I will give pause when deciding between going to the Broad or going out to...
Read moreI came to Broad Street Theater wanting and expecting to love it but I was disappointed. First ,the parking situation is atrocious - there are maybe 25 spots in the lot and 15 spots off street near the theater for 4 or 6 movie auditoriums, which is nowhere near enough parking. So I had to park a couple of blocks away in a pretty rough area and it just wasn't safe. Why they haven't built a garage here, I'm not sure. Second, I purchased my ticket online and still had to wait in line to have them scan it and print me a ticket. What's the point of buying it online, with the added $1.50 fee if I have to wait in line anyway at the Box office? Ridiculous. The movie going experience itself was fine, not great. It was a little warm in the theater and the screen is relatively small, the sound was decent, chairs were comfortable enough. I think the owners should take a visit to the theater in Coolidge Corner in Brookline, MA and see what it could be, that's an amazing model of a small independent theater. Broad St. Theater has potential but it definitely isn't worthy of five stars yet and I'd love to see it get...
Read moreI've been to this theater many times over the years. Generally pretty good place. Comfy seats, nice atmosphere. Feels like you could just hang out and have a beer or play an arcade game or something, like it feels like more than just a theater and I like that.
It's not the best if you're really trying to fully experience a film. More than once sounds outside the theater interfered with the movie experience. Today we could here them vacuuming the floor in the hall during the last 15 or 20 minutes of our movie. I was pretty cranky that I went to get a popcorn refill at 9pm and the guy at the concessions counter told me they'd already thrown it out. At 9! It's pretty off-putting to go see a film at 7:30 and feel like they're rushing to close. I'm going to start going to Canal instead where they show movies at midnight so no one is rushing to close the place down.
I don't even want to talk about how we can hear Bob Marley blasting in the hall, or the theater next door, or wherever during the most somber part of Zone of Interest. It's too upsetting to think about. I like to pretend it...
