Let me tell you, just go and try it! Even if you’re not vegan you will see food you like and when you taste it you will not be disappointed. It’s Monday and I got the sweet heat cauliflower, cashew Mac, sweet potatoes and collard greens. Sweet heat cauliflower wasn’t spicy but a bit sweet which was perfect for me. Ate it all before I left. If your looking for heat hit it with hot sauce for sure. Cashew Mac was a little sweet, spiced well and the cheesiness came across enough to me. Cashew milk/cheese I think tastes a little sweet by nature so I’m sure this is where the sweetness came from. I enjoyed this but it wasn’t my favorite on the plate. The sweet potatoes were delicious and they give you a nice big amount, I had plenty left over that I’ll be enjoying later. Hard to go wrong there. Collard Greens. Period. These were my fav thing on the plate every time I came back to them for a bite I re-realized how good they really taste to me. Almost got more to go before heading out with my leftovers. So yummy. I grabbed the green goddess drink and my date got the soursop ginger drink, his plate consisted of the jambalaya, okra gumbo, potato salad and sweet potatoes. He cleaned his entire plate with zero complaints. The drinks are both refreshing. The atmosphere was very pleasant. All of my interactions were memorably kind and put a smile on my face, even how the staff interacted with themselves. We got our food cafeteria style and ate out of our to-go containers and the service was very quick. The old school jams playing in the background added to the good vibes. If you care to grab dessert on your way out they offer ice cream and a few baked items that look delicious.
Safe to say I’ll be returning and looking...
Read moreThe meals contain dangerously high levels of sugar, especially for this heat. It's supposed to be called Sweet Sugar diabetes and heart disease While the food is plant based, the staff and the cooks aren't vegan so you are just a customer (who cant find other options around being fed sugar and cauliflower and a scoop of mac and cashews and sugar and maybe a Shepard pie with a kilo of sugar) and not an ethical ally, this is a good place if you want to follow a sugary plant based diet, it has nothing to do with veganism sadly The owners don't understand that vegans need more nutrition and heafty servings, instead they use the coca cola trick which is dunk a mountain of sugar in it so you are full quickly but addicted at the same time 15% of the employees are awesome and are hard-working people that I respect... but this ain't healthy nor filling you just get a big sugar rush comedown, without feeling full I have been a regular to this spot for 4 years, always leaving at least 25% every single time, I live on the same block. I hope they will start hiring more vegan employees who can elevate this promising establishment Good luck, and please stay away from the sugar if you are trying to be healthy Before the owner tries to discredit me, I can at any time come over and teach you how to cook, or come to my house so I can show you real cuisine and how fresh...
Read moreThis was my second visit to this restaurant. On my first visit, I was super excited to try the food. Unfortunately, almost everything I had was super salty. However, I decided that I would give it a second try since I understand salty food usually happens by accident and not by design. During my second visit I decided to try a few different items. What I appreciate the most was the food wasn't salty this time around, which was a plus. However, I was given two little scoops of rice with a ton of okra stew that was filled to the top. The okra was a little too spicy for me but might be just right for someone else. The collard greens was a little bitter and the mac and cheese was sweet, which is not ideal as I've never thought of such dish to be sweet. I don't believe I would be returning because my second visit wasn't much better than the first. My recommendations are, be careful with the salt, as I'm sure most vegan would like to maintain a healthy lifestyle by not consuminga high amount of sodium. Consider using unsweetened cashew or almond milk for the mac and cheese. And more importantly, warn the customers about foods that might be a tad bit spicy due to dietary restrictions. I hope this review is not taken out of context but more so what MY experience was and something to consider for more potential customers.
