Pelham Bay Park Highlights - Aileen B. Ryan Recreational complex #nyc #park #fy #foryoupage #foryourpage

Popular athletic fields, picnic areas and playground accessible from large parking lot on Middletown Road. For me the main draw of this part of Pelham Bay park were several nature trails originating from the parking lot and paved path leading to the bay shore.

The Aileen B. Ryan Recreational Complex, located off Middletown Rd in the Bronx, is a wonderful spot for outdoor activities and family gatherings, offering a variety of amenities that cater to different interests.

Pros: This recreational complex is well-maintained and offers a range of facilities, including playgrounds, sports fields, and walking paths, making it a great place for both kids and adults to enjoy. The park's spacious layout ensures that even on busy days, there's plenty of room to spread out and enjoy some peace and quiet. The playgrounds are particularly well-loved by families, with modern equipment that keeps children entertained for hours. Additionally, the sports fields are in good condition, making them ideal for local leagues or casual games with friends.

Cons: One of the minor drawbacks is that the complex can get quite crowded during weekends and holidays, which might make it challenging to find a quiet spot or secure a place on the sports fields. Parking can also be limited during peak times, so it's advisable to arrive early if you're planning to visit during busy periods. Furthermore, while the park is generally clean, occasional litter can be found, especially after large gatherings, which slightly detracts from the overall experience.

Overall: The Aileen B. Ryan Recreational Complex is a great spot for enjoying the outdoors in the Bronx. With a variety of amenities and a well-kept environment, it offers something for everyone, though be prepared for crowds during peak times. Whether you're looking to play sports, entertain your kids, or simply relax in a green space, this park is definitely...

Being born here in 1951 and still enjoying the Same neighborhood boy, have I stories to tell. Pelham Bay Park houses the miles of bicycles paths available to bikes only..NO CARS! Entering the park from the #6 train .Pelham bay station. Heading right will bring you to the 1/4 mile.jogging track, children's playground and dog run, open fields and the bicycle path runs thru the fields. Go left and wind up in front of the Winged Liberty statie and shaft, continue across the bridge and City Island/mini golf/ driving range is to your right. Cross the intersection to the left (Pelham bit stables) and the path continues for miles along shore road into the town of New Rochelle (a few more blocks and your in Glen Island park, marina, great lawns on the ocean, a wedding house ample parking for residents (or during Car shows,& Events.) If you turn right after the bridge there are bike paths on both sides of the road until the mini golf course. The bicycle paths continue into City Island (bear right) or Bear Left after the mini golf (Turtle cove) you will enter Orchard beach itself. There are Sinoway Indian trails, the Bartow-Pell Mansion, some unused but walkable trails from the Second turning circle that lead up to SplitRock itself. ( read your history, Anne Hutchison and her family were slaughtered here). In Orchard beach there are hiking and mountain bike trails (Kasimoroff trails) as Well as hiking trails, fishing ( if anything's still alive in that water) 2 off shore Islands ( one only available at neap low tide.) B.T.W. There's a dinosaur footprint on...

I've been coming to this recreational complex for so many years. I wish I lived closer because I love it here. Lots of fun memories here. Whether I came here at the wee hours of the night to get a sprint on the empty turf. Or whether I came out on a nice, bright, sunny, warm weekend day to see the community come out and do their activities, it's always great here.

I always loved the track and astroturf and it was improved when the calisthenics set up was constructed right near the tracks a few years ago.

I loved this area but its surrounded by the beautiful greenery of Pelham Bay park and its always tranquil and peaceful. Well, during the summer it can be A LOT, maybe too much. That's when I frequent it later at night. During the colder months, still a lot of people but nothing like during the warmer...
