Amazing. I was lucky to see the Corpse flower blooming today 6/27/2018 and next end of day too :-). I have been so excited to see this very rare chance to see the Corpse flower blooming. Blooming usaly last 24 to 36 hours only. So I was so lucky to see it. I followed the flower on the YouTube Live Stream and took screenshots and made an animation of flower blooming over 8 hour from 8pm to 4am the next day. Thereafter at 11am I could stand next to the real Corpse flower blooming. I was also lucky to be able to talk to the flower's "Daddy/Mommy". He is really nice and explained to me lots of things about the Corpse flower: This one was 77" (5' 5") tall, 48" diameter with had a deeper nicer color then the 2016 one. He told me that the biggest one so far was in a German botanical garden and was almost twice as tall, 144" (12'). Come and see TODAY 6/27/2018, the botanical garden staying open late until 10pm. Amazing. This 2018 Corpse Flower lasted much longer then expected, 4 days, before falling over. Awaiting the official time lapse video to be put on YouTube (made from the recorded...
Read moreThis listing is for the train station that serves its namesake botanical garden just across the street. The train is not part of the NYC subway (the nearest subway station is 7 blocks northwest). This one is a suburban train, with Grand Central station as its terminus in NYC. The trip between Grand Central and the Botanical Garden is fast and comfortable, around 20 minutes and making only a few stops. Tickets are expectedly more expensive than the subway. There are no turnstiles here but a sign for a ticket booth is posted by the entrance. We didn't find the booth and there are no staff manning the station so we just hopped on a passing train and paid $13 on-board for each ticket. Would have been cheaper buying from a...
Read moreThe Botanical Garden in the Bronx never disappoints! I would recommend taking MetroNorth as it is far faster (and more conveniently located) than the subway. My favorite time to go is during the Orchid Show (usually around March). It’s always so gorgeous and unique. On a nice day, you should take the tram around if you’ve never been, but definitely make sure to hop off and explore some of the footpaths. There are a lot of trails where you may never even see another person, evens on days when the garden is very crowded.
The evening events for adults during the Orchid Show are nice, but I would recommend going during the day as the flowers look more...
