Foodtown of Riverdale — Attraction in New York

Great food selection, but unfortunately terrible customer relations. My wife came here today to get some groceries including a large glass gallon of milk before the incoming storm we're expected to get. The lady at the check-out register packed the bag with milk too heavily into the grocery bag and did not double-bag it. When my wife walked barely two feet out of the store, the entire bag ripped apart, and the glass gallon completely broke apart. My wife cut herself on the glass trying to get all the groceries out of the bag now completely swimming in milk on the sidewalk. All our groceries were soaked. When she went back into the store to ask for a replacement for the milk, showing the bag and the broken bottle (and the bloody finger!) the manager, a tall fellow with a mustache, at first didn't believe her, then claimed the cashier didn't pack the bag herself, then said that the bag breaking was "Not my problem, not my fault", refused to even apologize for it happening, and had an incredibly nasty attitude towards my wife. He then walked away from her and refused to engage further. A little old lady who had been outside when my wife's bag broke came to back her up and said the other manager, not the one my wife dealt with, would have been much nicer and apologetic. This manager was nasty, defiant, and completely cold with my wife. We will never shop here again. Several other people who witnessed what happened with my wife's bag, and were standing watching the manager's completely unprofessional behavior agreed that the manager was in the wrong, and was incredibly nasty. Great neighborhood supermarket. Staff is always friendly and helps you out when needed. I repeat all of the staff. Doesn't matter what section of the store they are always helpful and nice. Special shout out to the guys in the deli, meat dept and the shrimp tempura makers lol. Food is fresh, store seems nice and clean; prices are reasonable. Food is expensive everywhere now a days so you just deal and hopefully buy things on sale when possible. The buffet counter is always fresh and the sushi section. If they are out they will make it for you by the time you are finished shopping. Had some of the hot food breaded chicken wings (right when you walk in the door) which were good and not too salty. Waiting for the non breaded wings to show up :) Only thing I have to pay a bit more attention to is the instacart delivery. Seems like it is a bit expensive, more than Aldi and Fresh Direct but I will have to look into this a bit more before I judge. Haha....

On March 09, 2022 I stopped in to pick up a few items. While most of the employees speak a language other than English.. most times there is little difficulty expressing your concerns. However, on this trip that was not the case. As I was perusing the refrigerated section I stopped to check the price of the Flan. I noticed a small jar on the shelf.. upon looking at the jar, I saw it contained Rice Pudding, looking closer I saw the lid was opened. There were a couple employees working on the tiles, I tried to tell them the jar was opened.. eventually the one fellow understood and called the man working in that area. He said, so what if it's open.. he took it from me.. opened it completely, looked inside, closed the cap tightly saying its ok don't worry. Then he placed the jar with the broken seal back on the shelf. I can tell you this.. I am never buying certain items in this Food Town anymore since the quality and freshness can not be...
