Walked in and the store associate was on his phone talking to someone about their asthma pump. I know that's a very important situation, so I gave him some grace.
When he got off the phone, he did not acknowledge me. I was looking for a Legend of Zelda Nintendo switch game card case, and could not find it, so I asked him, as well as informed him that according to the GameStop app, they had it in stock - before I could finish my sentence, he proceeds to ask me what was that? and once I explained, he replied "yeah nah, I never seen that, we don't have it." Any other store would've at least checked their inventory. This young man proceeds to go back to entertaining his phone. I found a few items I was looking for, and went to the cash register to pay. He not only scanned one of my items twice, but also once informed that one of the items he scanned was listed for a lower price, he didn't investigate to see if what I stated was correct, he just asked if I wanted to continue with the purchase or not. I took it off, because I know I saw it for less and he clearly had no interest in properly assisting me. I made my purchase and as I was leaving the store, another customer asked for suggestions for Nintendo switch games for his young child, and the store associate response was "I can't think of any games that's hot right now for the switch." I was so confused! Not when Super Mario Wonder comes highly rated, and one of the most popular kid friendly games out right now! I wanted to turn back and offer my suggestion, but went about my way.
This store needs better sales associates.
As for the items that he refused to inquire about for me, I went to the GameStop store on the grand concourse to get them, and the associate in that store was super helpful...
Read moreFine as far as GameStops go. Adequate selection. My issue was with their customer service. A particular employee named Ray, to be specific.
While perusing their shelves, I came upon a product that I was interested in, but the box was very banged up. I opened it to see if the contents were all present and in good quality. Ray saw me doing this, and immediately raised his voice and, in an accusatory tone, asked me what I was doing and why. I answered his questions, and he insisted that I couldn't do that, or at least that I needed to ask an employee if I could. I explained that I'd done it elsewhere and there was no issue - honestly, I couldn't say how many other times I'd done that to confirm the integrity of the item(s) inside a box, including other GameStops, and no employee had ever had a problem with it - and he told me that those were other places, and this place is different. If that's how he feels, that's fine. No big deal. But he acted like I'd done some inconceivable wrong, like I should've known it was wrong all along, when I really don't think it should've been an issue at all. Then, he said to me, after all parts inside the box were confirmed to be present, something like "so, at least you're going to buy it now, right?" As if, just by wanting to confirm that the damaged box contained everything it should've, I was now obligated to buy it. His tone was unjustifiably rude from the get-go. What could have been a simple "I understand, but next time could you please ask an employee to help?" turned into something totally unnecessary. He just didn't want to be reasonable in that moment.
I wouldn't advise you all to avoid the store, but... I don't know. Hopefully Ray was just...
Read moreThis store gets 1 star solely due to its unethical and incompetent manager. If he cannot sneak insurance onto your purchase or upsell you on items you do not need then he immediately loses all ability to provide the basic levels of customer service. I cannot count how many times I’ve seen customers return to this store due to broken promises and shady transactions performed by the manager of this store. I truly feel sorry for the associates who work here as they are often understaffed and overworked. This store is often opening late and closing early due to the mismanagement with staffing and coverage between shifts. This manager spends more time explaining the costs associated with running this store than recommending games to customers. You cannot even ask for a print out of games with hearing about how much each sheet of printing paper costs. If anyone in corporate reads these reviews PLEASE...
