Passing through the neighborhood. I was excited to try a treat here for the first time, and taste one of the goodies goodies of this newly gentrified neighborhood. I entered the store and was drawn to the beautifully displayed donuts with brilliant toppings. I didnât see any prices, but itâs a donut shop, so I picked a donut, confirmed it was yeast (my preferred type) and ordered a coffee, paying no mind. $9.22. For a single donut and coffee. Packaged in a sandwiched sized plastic case. I was shocked and horrified! When I asked for the breakdown, I learned the donut cost $6. There are still neighborhoods where you can buy a sizable sandwich for less than $6. Such waste, such expense.
The clerk assured me it was a really good donut, and when I explained how I donât like to buy unnecessary plastic but didnât wish to have it repackaged- before I could finish the sentence, the wet donut was promptly repackaged in paper and soiled plastic case disposed of behind the counter.
Still in shock, I returned to my car to try this anticipated donut before my journey home. It was okay. I thought I was buying a jelly donut (appeared to be called âberry berry filledâ but perhaps I misread). It had a very sweet and copious berry glaze. But the donut was huge and dense. Complete opposite from a Krispy Kreme. I felt sick after eating it.
You may say, â Oh these are just big donuts, theyâre meant to be shared.â Sure, that may justify the price, but honestly who wants to mangle a donut like this with a knife to share amongst 2-4 people? What do you do if you are by yourself and on the go? Wouldnât you rather just have 2 or three normal sized donuts, maybe try more than one type, and enjoy a light and airy donut instead? Rather than needing a plastic case to take your donut home, have a donut with flavorful glaze that dries to the touch so you donât lose half your topping to the paper wrapping?
For these reasons, I will not go back to buy a donut here. I think it is important that food taste good, but also not make you feel sick or bad for being served and prepared in an unsustainable and...
Read moreI pre-ordered and prepaid for Chanukah sufganiyot a day in advance. After walking a half hour to get to this location, I was told there had been problems in their bakery, they never got their morning delivery, and were waiting for the afternoon delivery. While they apparently did other customers the favour of calling to let them know their orders wouldn't be there at their appointed pickup time, no one called me, because they thought "for sure" they would get their afternoon delivery by 1:30. Yet when I arrived at 1:45 the doughnuts hadn't been delivered. I waited an additional hour at their location because they said "the truck is on its way from Astoria and will be here in 20 minutes." After wasting an additional hour waiting, with no truck in sight, I left. They said they will deliver my doughnuts to my house, but I have zero confidence they will ever arrive. All this could have been avoided by simply calling me in advance when they knew the delivery wouldn't be on time, and offering to deliver them to my apartment. It would have saved me an hour of walking and an hour of waiting. On top of everything else the server at the counter was not wearing his mask most of the time he was interacting...
Read moreBuyer Beware! They are stealing your money in a very sneaky way. I ordered a small tea for $2.75 at around 12:30pm. I tapped not noticing the price until later. Turns out I was charged $3.91! I went back to the shop later on and told the lady behind the counter that originally helped me (she was the only one that was there both times I came in) that she charged me for a large instead of a small (still would have overpaid because the large is $3). She looked me straight in the face and smiled. I was a bit perplexed so I continued to ask her about this charge. She paused for a moment and said the prices have changed so I asked her how much the large is. She then said that she charges the same (so she essentially makes up her own pricing!?!). I was overcharged by almost $1 (.92 to be exact). None of what transpired made any sense. See pics for details. Iâm not sure if itâs Dough thatâs shady or the worker, either...
