Union Market — Local services in New York

If I could give this place no stars I would. Most of the employees here are nice, but avoid the seafood/butcher counter, especially if you are a woman. I’ve purchased fish a handful of times, but the other day was the last. Every time has been somewhat unpleasant, but the other day I walked up to the seafood counter, I did not even get a greeting. I did, however, get ignored as I stood and waited for the two people behind the counter to help me. The other day they turned around and asked me to wait. So I did for about five minutes. As I was waiting a man walked up, was greeted with a friendly “Hello Sir, how are you?” and was helped. So I stepped back and waited, but was by then frustrated. Another man walked up and was greeted nicely, so I interjected that I had been waiting and would like help. As a result of my protest, I was treated with a rude attitude by the manager and the other person behind he counter who watched me menacingly. I wanted two different fish, but I only ordered one because it was obvious the guy helping me just wanted to get rid of me. They threw the fish I purchased on the other end of the counter for me to pick up and proceeded to greet the gentleman waiting with a kind smile and a friendly greeting. I have tried, several times, to shop in this store, and every time there has been an issue. The first time they would not accept cash, only cards. The second time they would not accept cards, only cash. Today, before I even attempted to pay, they demanded to know whether I would use a card or cash. I asked for them to ring up the bill and then I'd decide. This was way too complicated for them, so I left my purchases on the counter and walked out. I know they are overpriced, and they do have a nice selection of beautiful produce, but it's a store, and they are not doing me any favors. I walked over to a local supermarket and paid 99 cents for the same little cans of tomato paste that they were charging $2.79 for. I like the cleanliness of the store and their food is generally fresh. Priced above the average market, but their rotisserie chicken is to die for! I find their bread does not carry over well into the next day, but most of the sales people are easy to engage with. The other week I shopped at my usual Flatbush Avenue location and I walk with the aid of a walker. As I stood in line to check out a nice representative by the name of Francis offered to take my shopping cart and load my groceries atop the cash register table to be scanned by the cashier.
