Let me start by saying I don't eat roast beef. This is what their famous for, so I didn't have this specialty. I was there for a meeting. My partners had roast beef.
I decided to go "safe" and get the waffle fries with cheese and chicken fingers. I paid for everyone's meal so there was also a free pizza. The pizza is pretty much a small size, But what's the other food it was enough.
The chicken fingers are a smaller size and mine were hard fried. Not the soft kind of bite. I opted for barbecue sauce which was actually a name brand sauce which is pretty nice to see. The fries and the cheese sauce were disappointing. The sauce was very salty in the fries weren't that great. They will thin and kind of soft. The chicken also was salty on the outside. They were okay
The pizza would be a great hit I believe for children. Especially it under $5 a pie they're a great budget option if you have children around. As for adults, Nah. A very thin crust with goopy cheese.
Now for the aesthetics. Awesome. As soon as you walk in it takes you back into time. Looks very old like something from the '50s. And this isn't in a bad way. This is actually really cool. I like the sign that looks old school and even the decor looks like it hasn't been refreshed a lot. There's definitely ample seating but I know it gets really busy. People are pretty much in and out though. We stayed about an hour and no one bothered us to leave.
Now to be fair, my friend had the roast beef and he said it was really good in fact he's the one who recommended this place. He got roast beef with a side of gravy. He pretty much finished two sandwiches. There was like three bites he couldn't finish. My other partner didn't talk a lot while eating which means he was really enjoying it.
Another great feature this place has over a lot of other fast food restaurants is the fact that they cook to order. With that I order took a little bit longer than you would at a McDonald's or a chain of that nature. However it was well worth the wait because you know they were cooking it fresh and right on point.
My friend told me I couldn't come here without getting orange aid. It was really good. It was a mix of fresh orange and fresh lemon. Like a orange lemonade. But it was really tasty. I appreciate the fact that you can taste real ingredients in that orange aid unlike when you go to fast food restaurants for everything tastes artificial.
And last which probably should have been first is the price. I don't know how they keep the prices so low, but they are really fair for modern times and especially this economy. This is a really cool spot and a Brooklyn gem. I really hope they are able to maintain and survive...
Read moreI've been going to Roll N Roaster for 30+ years and loved it, but in the last 5-10 years the food quality has gone down, the prices have gone up and the customer service is the most disgusting I've ever seen! Still I chose to come here due to tradition. No more after today!
If your purchase is over $35, you get a free pizza. Their pizza is not worth buying, but for "free" it's ok. We always aim to buy enough to get the free pizza and never had a problem until today.
I look at the free pizza we got today and it looks like all the pieces were thrown together from 5 or 6 other pizzas other people didn't finish eating. All the pieces were separate and did not fit together like a puzzle (different sizes/shapes).
I go up to the two girls at the front and nicely explain that I want a replacement. They call over some guy and tell him what I told them about the pizza being thrown together from other pizzas and/or dropped and picked up off the floor.
Instead of apologizing, he looks at me and asks "Was this pizza BOUGHT or FREE?" I said "Free." He says "Then I'm sorry we can't replace it for you." I said "What is the difference? I paid at least $35 to get this so-called 'FREE' pizza. And it is thrown together like garbage. None of the pieces FIT!" This POS tells me "It's because when the dough is cut, it shrinks!" 😡😠 Arrogant MFer talks to me as if I'm an idiot. "But if you like, we can heat it up for you." Like sorry you don't like your garbage pizza but we can heat it up for you! I wanted to throw the pizza in his face.
I threw the pizza in the trash. I was not about to eat 5 other people's leftovers or a pizza that was picked up off the floor and served to me.
I didn't try to get a replacement because if I did get one, they would spit on it anyway.
How hard would it have been to replace a pizza for me when you clearly see it is disgusting the way it was served to me??
If they can do and say that to my face, imagine what goes on behind closed doors. After being a 30+ year customer, today was the final straw! They did it me and they will do it to you.
ETA: I posted a photo of the pizza but it's...
