This is a split decision review: if I were reviewing the staff, it would be five stars, but for the store itself, three stars. First, the good: I have had recourse to this store many many times, and every time, whether dealing with returns, checkout or looking for things, I have found the employees here to be almost unfailingly polite and helpful. Worthy of special mention is Jerry (I hope I remember his name corrrectly), who is I believe a former plumber who I encountered there late one Friday evening. Till I met him I had been unable to locate an assembly that would allow me to connect a non-standard Kohler faucet supply line to a CPVC supply. No one, including the folks at the Kohler distributorship in Bayonne(!) had been able to help me, but he rummaged around in the bins and set me up in about five minutes. Thanks!
The store itself has pros and cons: like the gas stations along 12th and 14th Streets, it's probably the best place to stop if you are in a car returning to Manhattan. It's also closer for many people in Hoboken and eastern JC than the HD on SR 440 which can be a royal pain to get to. But the tradeoff is that the stock is not that extensive, so you may want to check and make sure they have what you need before going.
No comment on the design/appliances section as I've never had reason to consult them.
As to driving, I think it's a rather clever arrangement: you can enter from eastbound 12th just after after Grove (on the left/north side), or you can enter from Grove southbound (left, into driveway just before light). Drive upstairs (be careful at the top) and...
Read moreThis home depot is horrendous. I have gone to others and received excellent service. I contract and frequently go to home depots for building materials. On one particular day I went to make a small purchase using a self checkout register. I was told that a register was full and only accepted credit or debit. The sign posted stated "Accepting Credit and Debit Only". I asked if I could receive cash back and was told yes. I received my cash back and left.
Another day I went back and did the same process. A different young lady(though I use that term dubiously) was working at the selfcheckout. I proceeded to a machine that had a sign similar to my other encounter which stated "Accepting Credit and Debit Only". When I went to select cash back, the young lady comes over to me yelling, "MISTER CANT YOU READ, IT SAY ACCEPTING CREDIT ONLY. Assuming she was stressed I kindly relayed that the last time I attempted this same transaction I was able to. She then sarcastically and not jokingly said "It says accept, what does accept mean. I replied, 'Accept means consent to receive. I stopped there and started to walked away realizing that this conversation wouldn't really go anywhere. She opened the machine and gives me $20 from INSIDE! I have engaged in public speaking for over 15 years plus I have several degrees and certifcates. My advice is don't go here unless you like a lesson on the improper use of the English language in isle 4, or the lack of common sense found by the checkout register. I apologize for my star rating. It was the lowest google...
Read moreUnder no circumstances should you buy appliances in this store. My wife and I ordered a top of the line GE Profile induction range (around $2400). David, a very nice sales person added installation fee for $109. On the day that the range was delivered, the delivery company Home Delivery of America brought the range in and plugged it to the wall. I thought that was a bit much for $109 asked the delivery guys and they told us that delivery and setup is part of their service. So what did we pay $109 for? "I don't know, that's for gas stove that has to be connected to a gas line, etc. Electric stove just get plugged in there is no setup." So my wife called the store and after hours of getting a run around, was told by the manager (Wendel) that we have to come to the store to get the credit. What? He absolutely refused to credit the $109 for which we receive no service. Horrible manager, he insisted on making a customer unhappy for $109 charge which he did no work for. Home Depot should fire this manager.
UPDATE: After we contacted the corporate office Barbara called and we got in contact with "Shondel?" the store manager. At this point Home Depot made everything better by immediately crediting us the unused service/setup fee and also in addition offering us additional discount. Kudos to Home Depot for doing the right thing and attempted to repair the damage by making the customer happy...
