Newington Parks & Recreation — Attraction in Newington

Excellent programs, generally a very attentive staff. Good facilities.

Where they fall short is mostly in the area of communication. Although, for example, you might have been participating in a program for years, they can forget to invite you to re-up, making you lose your place or subjecting you to late fees. There's no mercy even when it's clearly their fault. Program hotlines are not always updated. Signs at facilities listing rules can be years out of date.

I also find that during the summer, at least certain pool staff are very casual about opening on time, or if they open on time, the computer is not working or there's no cash box. That's just frustrating.

Lastly, Mill Pond Park seems to be the Canada Goose poop capital of the world. Surely something can be done so that park program participants aren't wading in goose poop. I saw this most clearly at the National Night Out in 2018. The kids playing barefoot on the water slides were walking through poop to the point that their feet were green. Beautiful place for children, swimming pools for adults & children with lifeguards on duty who know their stuff. We bought Floaties for the little one and the lifeguard had to send us away because it's not permitted. The product has to say coast Guard approved which I did not know because I don't know how to swim 🤦🏽‍♀️! Before you can enter they look at the label to make sure it has coastguard approved. Now before she sent us away she told us what other parents use for the toddlers and told us where to get it from so we went and got it. $5 for adults and $3 for children and they do 2 time slots NICE💯!, Staff was very knowledgeable about anything you asked at the concession stand and throughout the playground. IT has so many things for kids to do while playing their little hearts out. One little boy named Wilson helped my 3yr old grandson on the slide and took him to all the activities he could with the little bit of time left, you see he was in summer camp and just stopped playing with his friends to help my grandson ❤! . I would give it 10 stars if I could. We definitely will be returning....
