Wow! What a huge disappointment on how this impromptu birthday breakfast turned out to be. This is or was until today our go to place for breakfast when it was known as little Cakes. Had not been there in a couple of years and learned the name changed (same ownership) but decided to go on my birthday with family. We ordered 4 omelettes of which only 2 were actually good. The 5th meal was a kid’s meal that had a rather generous portions. However the other two omelettes were not fit for consumption. Two of the meat lovers omelets had burnt sausage and bacon and what I believe may have been the chorizo (literally carcinogen). My stomach felt gross and had zero appetite after several bites. When brought to the waitress’ attention she was very sympathetic and took the two “omelette” back to the “kitchen” and said someone would come out. Ten minutes later someone came out asked what was wrong like what are questioning. Had she not looked at the food. I felt like she was hiding from the truth. Explained to her it was burnt charcoal meats. She had no words. Nothing. No reaction. No words. No apologies. No offering to make it right. Not a word of anything remotely empathic. Very cavalier attitude exhibited by her. Expecting the meals to come off the bill that was present but neither of the unacceptable meat lovers omelette were comp’d. No attempt at basic customer service etiquette on the part of “management” was ever shown. Nothing that would try to salvage repeat business from a previous repeat customer. When the bill was question the male manager (“Angelo”?) his response was “that’s the way we make it”. So if you want gross burnt protein this is your place. As for the service that should have been a clue that this experience was going to be interesting. When “greeted” after waiting 5 minutes upon arriving the reaction was it was going to be a challenge to sit a party of 5. There was a table with a worker sitting there with room for 6 which is where they seated us after he was finished eating. We sat 10 minutes before one of our waitress attended to us. Placed the orders and 30 minutes later they were served. At one point the waitress brought a plate belonging to someone else well before we were to receive our orders. In defense of the waitress mention at the beginning of this post she was actually sympathetic. Young and well meaning and actually more reasonable than the senior staff. However at no point whatsoever where we were asked on how was everything. A standard in the industry. The bill was paid as presented in full even after it was questioned and a 18% tip for the young waitress. I now have to wonder why “little cakes” was renamed to Angelo’s. Was it because of similar experiences like ours? At one time little cakes was a recommendation. My late mother brought me there 10 years ago. Like I said it was the go to place for a good value meal. Unfortunately, Angelos will not be taking another order or benefitting from a recommendation in good conscious from me. To the management I do not expect you to respond to this post. And you shouldn’t Try to defend it you know you are in the wrong. You broke the golden rule which is the customer is always right if when they are wrong in Your mind. I will be more than happy to debate your handling of this situation in person. But you should be glad it did not take place at the time of this experience. I have more respect than that and would not enjoy embarrassing you in front of customers. Next time you should try to listen to the customer’s feedback and be more willing not to take someone’s hard earned money so easily when they are rightfully not satisfied with your product. I am not suggestion that anyone who happens to read this review not try your establishment. Who knows it may be wonderful which I hope it is. What I am voicing are my opinions expressed on facts which should be a good thing for the long term viabilty of any business. Make Little Cakes Great Again. Good luck...
Read moreCame here to eat breakfast on my birthday and the food certainly didn't disappoint. Our service was quick and professional as we only waited about 3 minutes for a table (despite having a full house) and all of 30 minutes for our food. The food was not only delicious but it was a hearty helping of it as you can see in this picture. I recommend the pancakes as they're so fluffy and sweet that it felt like I was eating funnel cakes for breakfast lol. Overall it's just a great spot to go to for breakfast and I will more than likely be returning.-10/9/21
Oooh boy, has this restaurant fallen through the cracks since my above review. My last visit was exceptional, but this time they were absolutely terrible!! As if they just took everything they did right the first time and just threw it out the window!! Came here again for Brunch to celebrate Mother's Day weekend and our service was god awful. We were seated quickly since there was barely anyone there, but we literally waited AN HOUR for our food. Other customers who came before us got served after us, our waitress was COMPLETELY INATTENTIVE as my mother's cup of coffee ran empty and would've never been refilled if she never asked. Our portions were WAY SMALLER this time, making the 1 hour wait senseless. Our food wasn't brought out altogether but in rounds, the Phat Boy is supposed to be 2 sausages but it was 1 sausage cut in half, just terrible. The food was delicious, but that's all there is to it. Our service was HORRIBLE. I will NEVER come back here. How low the mighty have...
Read moreTwo days ago, I left my phone behind when visiting The Little Cake Cafe. I was home in Massachusetts when I finally realized this, 3-1/2 hours away. I found the number and spoke with Angelo, the owner, who promised to mail the phone back to me. Too nervous to wait, I jumped in the car very early the next morning and drove all the way back to Newington. When Angelo put that phone back in my hand—with a huge smile—I felt as though I finally had my life back. But that wasn't all. He took me into the kitchen and introduced me to his staff, all of whom smiled just as brightly as Angelo had. Exhausted from the trip, I sat down and had breakfast: two eggs over medium, hash browns, fresh fruit, coffee, and an orange juice. The eggs were perfect, and the home fries were among the best I've ever had, perfectly spiced and cooked. My waitress, Gabby, couldn't have been nicer. Angelo came over frequently to chat, always with that big smile. When it came time to leave, Angelo told me it was 'on the house,' and refused to let me pay. His kindness and generosity are so very appreciated, and I cannot begin to thank him (and his staff) for turning a potentially very traumatic experience into a truly joyous one. Although it's out of the way, I will stop for lunch at The Little Cake Cafe every time I return to Danbury to visit my father in the future. Would that all businesses were run as thoughtfully as...
