Nothing gives an established small town charm and gravitas like an old, brick/stone library and the Goodrich did not disappoint! The lovely 1890s building is well-maintained inside and out. I enjoyed how so many period details remain in tact and functional. The history of the town and region lines the walls and halls, including a variety of town maps from different eras; an absolute delight for us cartophiles! The staff was friendly and helpful. The first level was small, but the rooms and space on the second level were roomy and comfortable to explore the multitude of historical items on display. I couldn’t attest to their literary collections as I didn’t have the opportunity to peruse such. Read moreWhat a cool (and historical) library! We were snowbound in Newport one day and walked around town and the locals recommended we stop in the library. It's one of those gorgeous old library's you only see in movies about small-town America. Kinda reminded me of the library in "It" actually! Lots of friendly staff and upstairs there is an amazing preserved bird collection that is quite impressive to see.
