YES , OH YES ! HOW MANY LIBRARIES HAVE A 150 + CAPACITY AUDITORIUM ? THAT'S WHAT I TOUGHT ! THIS LIBRARY VENUE IS AN ABSOLUTE TREASURE . I CAME FOR THE 1ST TIME LAST WEEK (10/FEB/2017) . I ATTENDED THE 16TH ANNUAL TOWN HALL MEETING IN ASSOCIATION WITH , TURNING POINT BEHAVIORAL HEALTH CARE CENTER . THE BEST 2.5-HRS. IN RECENT HISTORY . I LEARNED ABOUT SOME BEHIND THE SCENE'S FACTS ON ; LOCAL , COUNTY , STATE AND FEDERAL LEVEL'S . PERTAINING TO : 1》 POLICE & MENTAL HEALTH TRAINING 2》 THE INSANITY ON OUR STATE BUDGET 3》 THE INTEREST LEVELS OF SAID POLOTICIANS AND THEIR FRUSTRATION EXPLAINING THE OBVIOUS IMPASSE 4》 HOW THE DYNAMICS OF MENTAL HEALTH HAS SURVIVED (ALL BE IT ON - - LIFE SUPPORT) , SINCE THE PURGE OF FUNDING 5》 THEN , THE RELATIONSHIP OF CARE (MENTAL HEALTH) IN PRISON VERSUS IN THE COMMUNITY 5》 THAT IS , THE FEDERAL COURT MANDATED ILLINOIS TO PROVIDE MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES TO INMATES . AND THE MEN & WOMEN IN THE COMMUNITIES ARE GETTING CUT I ALSO , LEARNED THAT COMMUNITIES ARE GETTING INVOLVED , MORE ACTIVE AND HAVING A VOICE OF ACTION , AS PER OUR DISTINGUISHED , GUEST'S !

One of the reasons we bought a house here. We explore libraries every place we go and this one (mind you, I have over a half-century of library-loving bookwormishness under my belt) may be the most welcoming, best appointed and most gorgeous (midcentury) version I’ve ever had the good fortune of living near. Something about it makes me feel emotional. And beyond books, there’s art, tool and device rentals, quiet rooms, a farmers market next door on weekends, and a maker space where I was actually able to sit down and do some minor clothing repairs at their fancy sewing machines (I had foresight and brought the small pile with us once) The photos I shared are before we were lucky enough to live in Skokie, actually. It was an impactful visit and I must say this library remains top of our happy list

We’ve always loved the Skokie Library—the staff has consistently been wonderful. They recently added a new space called the Studio, which offers an impressive variety of resources, from 3D printing and crafting to embroidery and more. It’s free to use (with some limitations on supplies, of course). Hina at the Studio has been incredibly helpful with my son’s project and really made the process easier for him. Thanks to her support, we’re definitely looking forward to spending more time in the Studio!

The Skokie Public Library is a marvel of modern librarianship, a veritable temple of information, categorized and arranged with a precision that would make any librarian’s heart swell with pride. It is a place where knowledge is not only stored but celebrated, disseminated, and shared freely with all who enter its hallowed halls.

Every collection here is a triumph of order and accessibility, from the meticulously curated fiction stacks to the robust databases that place the world’s information at your fingertips.

The children’s section is a delight—a realm where the seeds of curiosity are planted in young minds, nurtured by colorful displays and thoughtfully selected books. Programs abound, bringing together young readers and their families, fostering a love of learning that will carry them through life.

For scholars, professionals, and the intellectually curious, the library offers resources as vast as they are varied. Study spaces, digital tools, and a staff of unparalleled expertise await those who seek guidance. The librarians here are the true custodians of knowledge, their skills honed to assist all patrons, whether guiding them to the perfect book or navigating the complexities of a research inquiry.

The Skokie Public Library is, in essence, a beacon of enlightenment. It embodies the highest ideals of the library profession: access, equity, and the pursuit of lifelong learning. To step inside is to step into a world where every question has an answer and every visitor has a place. It is, quite simply, a paradise for those who revere the written word and the...

Discriminatory practices. People moving the yellow chairs, people lounging with their shoes off, and people eating outside of the first floor dining area. People were and are doing these things daily without it being addressed, so I started to. As soon as I did any of these things security would find me and say it wasn't allowed. I've also watched to see if they would apply the same rules to others, but nobody else was even talked to. I talked to the director himself, in a polite and hushed voice(it is a library), and he kept explaining away my complaint before he even went and talked to security, as if these things aren't actually happening- totally oblivious to what goes on at his library. Also, muslims are allowed to openly pray and worship, laying out their prayer rugs as they do so. At various government institutions people of the Christian faith get shut down for this and hit with 'separation of church and state'. Not only is it permitted at this library, but it's even promoted at this library. They openly announce Islamic holidays and practices over the intercom. But nothing about any other faith is announced. I'm going to talk to a lawyer. The courts might not care about me being discriminated against, but they will care about the violation of separation of...
