My 17 year old daughter and I stayed the Bestwestern Norwalk Inn June 13-16. We were visiting friends in the area and this hotel had better reviews than most. First the good. The young lady (I wish I could remember her name) who checked us in was very friendly and helpful. The room was clean. The area is ok on Firestone but I wouldn’t walk around at night especially off the main drag.
Now the bad, these rooms are not quiet. You can hear EVERYTHING through the walls. And by everything, I mean the stuff you put a pillow over your head to drown out the noise. We also could hear complete conversations.
Most importantly, and this is why I’m writing the review, at about 6:30 a.m. on Saturday the 16th I woke to find our hotel door open! The only thing that stopped it from being completely open was the metal plate that acts as a “chain” The dead bolt was off too. I was very OCD about bolting and using the plate even during the day. Two females traveling alone, you have to be careful.
My first thought was, maybe I didn’t get the door latched all the way. My daughter and I both tested the door to see if it could appear shut and but not latched. This door was either opened or closed. Also, since the doors lead to the outside we would have seen light come through from the lighted walk way.
At around 8:30 a.m. I went to the front desk to report it. Debra from the front desk pointed the finger at me saying I probably didn’t shut the door all the way. She made several defensive remarks about their staff (which I never accused). She basically said I could call the manager on Monday and ask him to look at the surveillance video. I told her that she should have insisted the manager call ME and that she made me feel like I was the bad guy.
The manager called me Monday morning. He asked me if I had shut the door completely sigh I repeated what I told his front desk staff, the door is opened or closed. I told him to go try it himself. Then he said “I understand this happened at 6:30 a.m. but you didn’t report it until 8:30 a.m.” I informed him that anyone who tried to open the door was long gone by the time I woke up. Next he said that he didn’t see anything on the video around 6:30 a.m. I told him I don’t know what time it happened, I just woke up to it at 6:30 a.m. to find it open. My guess is it happened in the middle of the night when it was dark.
We ended our conversation with him saying he would keep an eye on the room?! And that he was sorry this happened to me. I honestly don’t think they want to know the whole truth because it would look bad for their hotel.
I did research if criminals can open electronic locks and found a recent article on Forbes that shows tech savvy people can make a master key. I feel like we were targeted because we were two females. I will never stay in another hotel with an outside entrance nor at this...
Read moreMy family and I have stayed there for 4 nights. I was going to give a 4 stars rating on it but one thing that ruin it at the end. This happened after the 2nd night when we stayed in the room. So I woke up that morning and went to the bathroom. After that I was going to the bed again and I saw a big ROACH crawling on my pillow and climb up to the wall. I am not kidding, it is so big that I have never seen it for the past 20 yrs. Also, it is the kind that have a wing and it can fly too. I remember seeing that big roach when I was a little kid but that place was dirty and smell that why. This motel wasn't like that and I was suprise. At the end I killed it with the sandal. I'm glad that thing didn't crawl to my kid's bed, phew!!! You know I have read so many reviews on all the hotel around the area. Pretty much everyone of them have a few customers complainting about seeing a roach or bed bug and some sort. What else can you say, it is a motel at the end. Once you open your room door, you are looking right outside of your building and people can see you off the street. To avoid things like that to happen, you might want to stay at the hotel that is 3 stars or above. In this case you will end up paying a lot more to stay. When I found out about the roach in my room, I didn't even went down to the front desk to complaint about it. You know what to expect when you pay for price to stay at the hotel like that. Oh, you may want to know which room I was staying at but I can only say that I'm staying at second floor facing the pool. Now talking about the free breakfast. I think it is just fine. They serve coffee, milk, OJ, apple juice for drink. Food wise are sausage, egg, potates, cereal, dounts, muffins, and make your own waffle. They also have banana, apple, orange, and yogurts too. Almost forget that they have tea bags and hot chocolate there so that you can make your own. Again, you are paying for what you get and I don't know why there still people complaining about things like that. To make that clear when I said "You are paying for what you get". It is only relevant to the area that you are visiting NOT the area at your places people. For example, this motel if I were staying near by my place would only cost about $80 a night. Just want to make my...
Read moreOverall I had a good stay. Price was fairly cheap. They do offer free breakfast. Was eggs sausage and potatoes for hot food and waffle maker, bagel cereal and fruit. Juice coffee and milk also served. Was the same options for 6 days straight so got a bit sick of eating the same food but still appreciate the free breakfast. pool area was nice and clean. Pool was not heated so a bit cold and hot tub was always working. The rooms are of normal size. Says 2 queen beds but they seemed small for 2 adults. TV options were good. Wifi was out for a few days but when it did work was good. Walls are thin as in most hotels and can hear every conversation going on When we stayed there was workers from a near by festival so at night they would crowd pool area and be a bit loud. Nothing to bad but if you are a light sleeper noise could be a bother. Few towels are provided in room and none at pool so you have to use the room ones . air conditioning was not constant turning on and off every few mins and loud. At night after 11pm it never turned on again till after 9am. Room got really warm and uncomfortable. There is no window to open and other guest had door wide open to get cool air at night. Area seems pretty safe just go noth of hotel south seemed a bit run down and not friendly. There is lots of food options close by and 7-11 and shopping in walking distance For the price I feel the value was good and would probably stay again if...
