If I could rate it any lower I would. I have family on the north shore and Haleiwa is only about a 7 to 10 minute drive away. I drove down with my boyfriend excited to show him around when we stopped at this specific art gallery. We wondered around admiring the art, when we came across a worker and older blonde woman who spent much of her time watching my partner and I. My partner asked politely if they would allow him to take photos to which she replied, no, we complied and looked around the gallery. All of this would have been fine except she followed and glared at us while we were trying to enjoy ourselves when an older couple came in she was very polite, friendly and engaged with them. When I went to go ask her questions she was distant and and never replied. Her costumer service skills are horrendous I don’t know what the assumption was my best guess would be that we were both young and looked as if we couldn’t afford anything. As with how she interacted with the elderly couple she gave them physical distance but willingly engaged with them, not monitoring them. I think my final straw other than very clearly being watched and followed around the store was when my boyfriend and I were getting ready to leave she was phrasing questioning to me impolitely asking me if that was all? As if she couldn’t be bothered with my partner and I. Ma’am you don’t make the art, you sell it. And quite frankly speaking to us as if you couldn’t be bothered, sold nothing to us except that we would take our...
Read moreAs much as I'd like to rave about how wonderful all the artwork was, I had an unfriendly encounter with one of the gentlemen who works at the gallery. In hindsight I should have asked if I was allowed to take photos of the galleries but as soon as he saw me taking photos, he yelled across the room that I wasn't allowed to take photos because the artists don't like it. As soon as he said it I apologized and put my phone away. Then, he felt the need to say "you probably can't afford it anyways ". I was so shocked at that comment I couldn't even think of anything to say and just stepped out. That was unnecessary for him to say that and made me feel so unwelcome. Perhaps he prefers to service tourists over locals assuming they will shell out the money to pay the high prices for the art. I love Wyland's artwork and just wanted to enjoy looking at other locally made artwork but I don't think I will visit this gallery in the future and will definitely advise caution to friends and visitors who are exploring...
Read moreEvery visit over the past fifteen plus years I've left disappointed or disgusted by the staff and Robert Wyland himself. The way Robert truly treats people is atrocious. From telling a group of wounded warriors he could never take the cut in pay to suggesting another artist kiss the ground he walks on for selling a painting for a certain dollar amount, it felt better to leave than invest into inflated ego. The value of everything in the place is absolutely phony, and two people walking in at separate times will be given different appraisals. The gallery itself is downright ignorant to locals, artists, and anyone they don't deem worthy. The one star goes to Walfrido which is the best thing the gallery has...
