Haleiwa Seafood is one of the many food trucks in the Haleiwa food truck park on both side of the road. The prices are very reasonable and the menu seemed down the middle seafood. We were extremely hungry so we decided to give it a shot.
The coconut shrimp was absolutely delicious. Flavorful, crunchy and quite fresh. Served with seasoned fries and it was simple awesome for a food truck. So was the Chicken Karaage on rice. This isn't your Japanese restaurant salt & pepper style. The chunks are huge and is season well with sauce on top. It's just fried chicken reinvented by the chefs.
The food truck park combines various cuisines on both sides of the road and together forms a nice dining atmosphere. The only issue are the cars. Because it is right there on the main road, every other minute you have these cars blasting music with bass that drives by (if you're lucky) or are crawling next to you rattling your ear drums. And yes, it does get a bit dusty with the cars zipping by non-stop.
Would I recommend Haleiwa Seafood? Yes, absolutely. Would I recommend coming back to this food truck park? Not really. So again, a bit unfair to the particular food truck but it is...
Read moreHands down one of the best seafood meals I've ever had! I ordered the combo with mahi and beer-battered crispy shrimp, and asked if they could substitute the fried fish for grilled instead. They were happy to accommodate, and the fish came out grilled to perfection--charred just right on the outside and juicy in the middle.
The plate also came with their homemade chili and aioli sauce, which was absolutely amazing--creamy, tangy, and packed with flavor. Even the side salad of mixed greens was fresh and a nice balance to the seafood. I prefer more items on the salad like tomatoes, cucumber or shredded carrots.
The service was just as good as the food. The front desk lady who took my order was communicative, attentive, and had such a great attitude. She even checked with the chef to make sure my substitution was possible.
There are a few chairs and tables set up in front of the food truck where you can sit and enjoy your meal, which makes the whole experience even better. Highly recommend if you're in Oahu and would like to try some...
Read moreI do make an effort to support local restaurants so yesterday we bought Tacos and a Mahi Burger at Haleiwa Seafood. The Mahi Burger did not come with all the ingredients and we had to convince the cook that something was missing. Both dishes had more salt than any dish I have ever had at a restaurant. The burger had a house salsa that was very very spicy and it said nothing about being spicy on the menu. At least the bun absorbed some of the spice so my mouth was not burning. Then the taco tasted like they poured half a bottle of salt on the delicate ahi fish. One of the workers said he didn't know what was in the house salsa and he would tell the chef it had too much salt. I should have asked for a refund as this was not edible. Maybe the chef was new or inexperienced, but good customer service would have said can we get you something else or at least compensated with something. I will never return in unless there is a new chef that actually tastes what he is cooking because obviously that didn't happen as no chef would serve...
