Show looks ok and looks to have a cool scene similar to the DCA Aladdin show. Admittedly, Dragons is one of those IP workhorses we didn't follow past the first movie. Now that it's revived as an attraction coinciding with a live action remake, my travel party is less interested. Admittedly, the show deserves to be reviewed on its own merits and the Dragons land itself would be excellent if sight lines were taken into account. Also, in a park with nowhere to stand indoors during the rain besides some ride lines and one other show, I'm glad the show exists. Case in point, due to the weather and constant "delays" to screen-based fully-articulating motion rides (read: cleanup), this was one of only two things open in the whole park when we visited... and the show started in 4 minutes, how lucky!
Then we were stopped. Oh, is the show full?
Nope plenty of room, but bouncers stop seating 5 minutes before the show. You're supposed to know this information, which is not posted in signage or on the app.
...And these bouncers are rude about it. Despite having the undesirable job of coaching a line of upset children about how Universal makes up their own internal rules and Nah nuh nah neh Nah Nah if you don't know them, they're still antagonistic about it. Annoyed at people who don't know: "Folks, you WILL NOT be seated for the 4:30 show. If you want to be seated for the 6:00 show, you MUST enter the gates 5 minutes before the show!".
We were fine, but those children behind us actually wanted to see the show... it's one of the few things they could do in this park. You think you're bringing your children to a fantasy world of wonder, but I guess it's more like the DMV... be sure to coach your children up on this rule and manage expectations otherwise.
Here's an idea, Comcast: Have the time you have your customers need to arrive as the scheduled show time, have your actors start 5 minutes later. I've been to shows and concerts my whole life, and this is always how showtimes work, except when doors and showtimes are both explicitly stated. Also, in general, stop giving legal excuses for being annoyed by your customers - It's not for the actor's safety or because the show is so cool and technical that you won't allow guests in 4 minutes before the show starts. If I had to guess it's because of poor planning and how annoyed your customers make you when they take 3 minutes to find a seat after the pay clock started. Everyone can be happy though, just post the show times 5 minutes earlier. Lots of regional parks that have tight budgets already do this... and guests commonly enjoy shows that have odd posted...
Read moreThe Untrainable Dragon is an unbeatable show, so well done by Universal! Come to this show to see LOTS of dragons, your favorite characters from HTTYD, and a heartwarming story.
I was so impressed by the animatronics here. I’ve never experienced a show like this one at a theme park. Starting with singing and storytelling, then bringing out different types of dragons, to Hiccup recalling the various “scary” and “untrainable” dragons he’s managed to befriend. It’s great.
The moral of the story here is that there really is no true untrainable dragon- or it’s a misunderstanding if that’s the belief. In other words, no one is ever too far gone- you just may not know exactly what they’re going through or how to best help them, but there’s always a way. This is a great one for the kids & adults alike, and being an indoor show it’s the perfect break from the heat sitting in some AC for...
Read moreWhy does a show need fast pass entry? Surely it is a big theatre and everyone just shows up together. When you get there 20 minutes early to get a seat and fast pass walk past you at the last second and they go straight in and sit front and centre when everyone else is asked to move down to the end of the row. After all, nobody else has paid admission to the park have they. Should we be happy with what is left? I understand shorter queues, but shows? You have to pay more for a chance of a good seat?
Other than my endless disgust for fast pass abuse, the show was...
