At the beginning of August I was an overweight middle aged man. I had just finished my master's degree in nursing and started a new job as a nurse practitioner. I decided that it was time to take charge of my life and do something to improve how I looked and how I felt about myself
I made a visit to Zone Fitness & Health on the westside of Ocala where I met a young man named Nick. He walked me through all of the benefits of membership in this facility could offer. My meeting with him help to open my eyes to the possibility of change. At the end of our meeting he set me up with a meeting with a personal trainer.
At the beginning of the next week, I met with a personal trainer named Aaron Toney. Aaron walked me through the facility and showed me more about the equipment and explained more about the benefits of membership. He spent an hour sitting with me helping me to figure out what my goals were and how I could meet those goals. My goal was not only to feel better about myself, but to reach 175 lb with 17% body fat by Christmas.
In an effort to meet my goals, I have met with Aaron at least one day almost every week. During those meetings we have worked on New exercises, discussed methods of stretching and relaxing, and disgust better dietary choices.
I have also partook of several of the options offered. My typical week includes working on the treadmill as well as some resistance exercise in their Express song on Mondays, Friday's, Saturdays, and some Sundays. This is where I met another one of their staff members named Alexis . She is not only a great person and full of motivation, but she has become a good friend .
On Tuesdays Wednesdays and Thursdays I partake in their XTG program. In this class, I have not only been able to work with Aaron, but met another trainer, Joel McKenna. These two exceptional gentlemen have helped to coach me through that program and helped me to be able to partake in the exercises and training at 11 that I never thought in the exercises and training at a level that I never thought I would be able to work at.
Other staff members that are worthy of mention are Chip and Daisy. These two individuals are very easy to talk with and very motivational. I know that there are other staff members that I talked with on a frequent basis, but unfortunately as I sit here I can see their faces, but I cannot remember their names. I Will Make A Better Effort in the future to remember their names.
During the course of all of this, I the overachiever, was forced to take 6 weeks off from my workout due to a sprained Achilles tendon. When I came back to the gym, Aaron and Joel were exceptional at helping to modify the program so that I could still participate to the best of my ability.
I am now 5 weeks away from some Christmas which is the scheduled date of completion for my goal. Even with taking 6 weeks off due to my sprained ankle, and the week I took off for a family reunions in Michigan, I am 181 lb with a 22% body fat reading. Considering I started at 200 lb with a 28% body fat reading, I'm feeling very good right at the moment. I owe it all to the staff at Zone Fitness & Health for helping me to find my motivation to become my best self.
Whether you are a beginner or an expert there is something at this facility for you. Even a beginner who has never seriously worked out in their life such as me can find motivation and encouragement to participate in activities and find a...
Read moreAs a CURRENT member, it would behoove prospective members to read this before considering joining this gym. My family joined this gym last month (April '18) with the help of Kendrick Butler. After giving my son (Kenneth) a Personal Trainer trial with Tanner, my son agreed to a 6 month Personal Trainer agreement for a cost of $50 a session, to be drafted on the 9th of every month at $200. Kendrick told us if we ever had any problems, or if things weren't working out just talk to him and be honest about the situation. Well, they were very nice and welcomed us every time we went to the gym. After I realized my son wasn't making his training sessions and I was basically paying for the training with it being barely used, we approached Kendrick yesterday about possibly canceling the remainder of the personal trainer agreement drafts and the "nice and friendly" Kendrick turned into your typical car salesman. Instead of trying to see what he can do or workout for us, his first words were "problem is, your in a contract". When I referenced what the contract stipulates in regards to canceling it, which states "If I am canceling my personal training or putting it on a hold for medical or traveling, it must be done 5 to 7 business days before the draft date', Kendrick proceeded to tell me thats after the 6 months. Unfortunately, that is not what the contract states and according to Florida Statutes 501.017, Health Studio contracts should contain certain contractual provisions like the cancellation policy to prevent undue financial hardship to citizens of this State (f.s. 501.012). Since these contractual provisions required by law are not present this contract should be considered invalid and those who have refused this cancellation request to be subject to the penalties allowed in 501.019 (f.s. Health Studios; penalties). Even after several attempts to cancel the remainder of the personal training sessions as allowed to me in the contract I was forced to file a complaint with the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (Complaint # 318934). I would suggest anyone having a problem with this gym and its contracts to file a complaint, as Florida Legislature (501.012) now regulates health studio contracts because of the financial hardship and previous problems and abuses in...

DO NOT go to this gym !!!!
I signed up for a yearly membership last year on January 1st. Along with purchased a 6 month personal trainer program. All was well for the first 4 months, until my trainer left the company. Once he left I was tossed around from trainer to trainer with very little to no communication. I was patient at first bout this but then it became increasingly annoying. As one knows when you are working out, to be removed from a routine due to incosistency and inability for the gym to find a set trainer it becomes an issue. Especially if you are paying for the service. I finished out the 6 months which I am almost certain I may of got 4 sessions in those last 2 months. I then called to cancel my membership along with making sure my 6 month training would not be renewed. I was told over the phone it was cancelled. After not receiving the service I felt was owed to me I decided to no longer go to this gym. The communication along with customer service at this place is way off. I just called this morning to assure again that my membership was cancelled. An individual picked up and informed me yes the membership is cancelled that I am in collections for money I owe them. Now my best guess here is they continued to bill me for the yearly membership after several months ago I called to cancel. They most likely instead of listening to my concerns bout the way they were managing my service and the frustration I had, instead of correcting it or addressing it, they decided to go with the idea well he is locked into a year lets keep billing him. Overall my experience here was not well at all. I probably should of saw the writing on the wall when there own trainers who were being let go and in the process I was being tossed around from 1 to another, they were telling me all these negative things bout this gym.
I will be submitting a formal complaint to corporate on how my experience was here right after...
