Love this library & frequently visit. However, during my last visit I was bitten by a BED BUG that was on/in the library’s furniture. I know 100% that it was a bed bug. I was sitting on one of the grey chairs by the windows reading and my left leg started itching like crazy. I thought it was all in my head but after sitting for a few minutes it became unbearable. I got up and looked down quickly at the seat and saw a tiny bed bug with a fully belly, running towards the crease of the seat (I’m assuming there were more probably hiding along the seams of the cushion, as that is typical for bed bugs— I only know this because of my father being an exterminator for majority of my life and teaching me how the bugs and their bites look). I smashed the bed bug before it could go back into the seat crease and it splattered blood all over my hand. It was a baby, so that lets me know there is more of them/a nest somewhere in the library, more than likely an infestation. I immediately ran to the bathroom to check my clothes for more of them, thank God there were none. I informed the librarian and she was smug and barely reacted— making me think this isn’t a new problem and they may be aware of the infestation. I wasn’t given an apology or met with any sympathy or compassion, just a “thanks for letting me know, bye.” With there being many kids and elderly that frequent this library (including me & mine) this is very concerning to me. I had to throw my clothes away because I refuse to chance bringing bed bugs into my clean home. I have photo proof of the bed bug bites and they have gotten worse and worse since the initial bite. They need to have an exterminator come in ASAP. Even if it came from a patron of the library, I don’t believe this would be a one time occurrence and bed bugs don’t just disappear (especially with a steady supply of blood from people constantly coming in). The problem will only get worse. Sadly, I will not be returning. I’d rather read in my car than chance this nonsense again. My leg still hurts to this day, as I think I have suffered an allergic reaction from the bites. (Left photo is right after the incident last week, right is today). Please have an exterminator come inspect and treat ASAP,...
Read moreThe staff are helpful and friendly, I love the mural in the entryway but I believe Oconomowoc needs a much bigger more beautiful and up to date library, with a larger children's section, a maker's space, more meeting spaces, cozy quiet reading rooms with a fireplace and more artwork, rooms and programming that serve diverse population, meaning needs, ages and abilities as well as culturally inclusive, open and friendly. Flexibility to learn and grow. A safe place that's warm and inviting, cool and exciting. Libraries are not just for books , they're for continued learning and sharing ideas, studying and socializing, Our population is growing .Our library needs to grow. Our "community center" is a rigidly run event space for rent. It could be so much better. The meetings to get community input for design ideas and needs was poorly attended and the favorite design ideas voted on by those who did attend , we were told today were utilizing land owned by Bank 5/9 who doesn't want to sell or share even though we added to the parking in that design! The stinginess and lack of support for public spaces is...
Read moreI recently visited our local public library and was thoroughly impressed by their extensive collection of progressive literature for children. This library is truly a treasure trove for young readers and parents alike who are looking for books that promote inclusivity, diversity, and forward-thinking values.
The children’s section is thoughtfully curated with books that cover a wide range of important topics, from environmental awareness and social justice to empathy and self-acceptance. It’s heartening to see stories that reflect the diverse world we live in, allowing children to see themselves and others in the pages they read.
I highly recommend visiting and exploring their...
