Cornerstone Sports Pub & Eatery — Restaurant in Oconomowoc

Two stars because the atmosphere was good, it was clean and had a little arcade section. But the awful service really made the visit disappointing. Did not have the option to try the food.

We arrived just before midnight as a group of about 15 people looking for a chill place after a wedding (we had called a few weeks prior to let the business know we would be stopping in, and they did not answer, so a message was left). The bar was rather empty with another group of about 8 playing darts and 2 other regulars at the bar. As our group walked in, we were greeted with an empty bar, as the bartender Jenny was already starting her closing duties and was walking around cleaning the restaurant area of the establishment.

Our party sat at a few tables and a few of us approached the bar to try to get drinks. We waited for a good 10 minutes before Jenny decided to mosey her way over and finally acknowledge us. When she arrived to take our order, she seemed disgruntled having to pour our beers and make our drinks. We were greeted with this bad attitude every time someone tried to get a drink. We would stand at the bar for multiple minutes without being acknowledged while Jenny hung out with her regulars on the other side of the bar.

During our visit, a few people in our party went to play the arcade games and Jenny yelled at them multiple times for "bumping" into the machines and threatened to kick those members of our group out if they continued to play the games.

Around 12:45 another larger group of people (a bachelorette group) walked in and Jenny made it extremely clear that she was not pleased to be dealing with those girls either. She made a nasty face as soon as the girls walked into the bar, and it was clear that they could feel it because they left pretty immediately.

At 1:15, Jenny called last call. When I heard that, I grabbed my wallet and headed the 10 steps to the bar. When I got there and asked for a vodka red bull, she said no and that last call is over and she is closed and not serving anyone else. Annoyed but not willing to cause any issues, I returned to my table, only to watch her pour a drink for her regular sitting on the other side of the bar.

At 1:20, a few people in our party stepped out the back door to say goodbye to a friend and within minutes, Jenny went back there and locked them out of the building saying that the whole bar is now closed and no one is allowed to step foot back inside the building, even though online the hours clearly state the bar is open until 2:30 on Saturday.

I finally had enough and told Jenny that I was tired of her rude attitude all night and that we would have loved to be able to continue to help her make more money tonight and her response was "I made plenty of money tonight, I don't need you".

With all of this being said, maybe this place is great, maybe the have great food, maybe the other bartenders and wait staff are fantastic. But Jenny ruined the experience for us. She is the reason that I cannot...

UPDATE:

Tried it again for a Friday fish fry. Normal wait time. If you are looking to avoid the rush, it seems that 7:00 would be the sweet spot for that.

As for the food, fish fry was great, and all the sides were just as good. No complaints with it!

Best part this visit was the server. I will call out Kassi as a kick butt server! She was hands down the best waitress I have had in a long time! She made sure to check back multiple times, and was on things. Even if she didn't need to refill things, she'd at least touch the table so we knew that she was looking and checking in on us. She made sure we were all taken care of with all of her tables, and was running laps around others. She was redeemed the service from the first visit below! Thank you Kassi!!

We arrived after the main dinner rush. We're seated after a few minutes, which the two ladies told us when we put in our name. When we got seated our waitress was right there, placed our drink order and we got them immediately.

It was our first time here so we wanted to look over the menu, and our waitress was kind enough to give us some time. However, I think she forgot we were her table. She walked by us numerous times, bussing tables and assisting others bring out food, and walking out and down the hallway. Finally i had to ask another waitress to send ours over because it had been a good 15 minutes since I placed my menu next to me, to try and signify we were ready.

When the waitress came she was apologetic. We placed our fish order and had it within 5 minutes, which was decimating up for being forgotten about. The fish was rubbery and didn't flake apart like you'd expect it to. The fries were phenomenal though, I could go for a plate of just those.

Overall it wasn't the worst, I want to give it another try because there was a lot of good sounding items, just not the greatest first time experience. We will give it another try, and maybe the rating will go up...

We stopped here on Sunday for a meal while also wanting a place to wait for the Christmas train that was making a stop in Oconomowoc later on in the evening. It was already getting busy when our foursome got seated and only got busier. Our server got us menus and took our drink orders and I ordered some cheese curds for the table. Our drinks and the cheese curds came at almost the same time as the Cornerstone was getting very busy and I think overwhelming the servers and the kitchen. We enjoyed the excellent curds and our drinks while we waited for our server to return and when she did she apologized for the wait which was appreciated but not necessary considering the rush of people. We put our orders in which consisted for the 4 of us of a bowl of chili an order of loaded potato skins a classic burger with grilled onions and a Cornerstone Brick pizza with pepperoni and extra cheese. It did take a little while for our food to come out but I don't think that was anymore than the workers being overwhelmed by the amount of customers who were doing the same thing as we were coming in for a little food and a warm spot to wait for the Christmas train. All of our orders were excellent everyone was very happy with what they ordered everything was perfectly cooked and everyone said they would order them again in the future. We will be returning to the Cornerstone again soon to try some of the other things on the menu it's a great Pub...
