Hello! I’m officially a paleontologist, and with that title comes with the guilt of not riding this highly-praised ride….until a few days ago! I faced my fears and went on this ride for the first time only to be met with a WONDERFUL experience! Here’s a VERY detailed review of this ride for anyone who’s particularly scared and looking through the reviews to muster up some semblance of courage to go on this ( literally me! ) Before I start, everything detailed here was my experience, and can very well differ person to person! I was put onto row 6 durning the sunset which is kinda the most mellow way of experiencing this ride ( or so I’m told ) so just keep that in mind while reading! I’ll start this by talking about that spectacular queue! PLEASE DON’T LET THE QUEUE SCARE YOU! The queue is surprisingly intense and for me really built up this made-up stigma in my head that this ride was really intense, but I promise you the queue is just there to build tension and freak you out. I adore the queue much more after I went on the ride and became almost comical watching those once perilous trains run past the window now seem exciting! The artistic and technical aspects of this queue is unmatched, truly amazing! Next I’ll go over are the restraints: They felt similar to Hulk’s but they were more comfortable and spacious. They also feature a lap bar rather than an over-head restraint, which isn’t really a game changer unlike what some people might have said. Ok, now onto the actual ride. After the train starts up you go into the first launch, which if you look to your sides they have raptors running with the train which is always fun. This is probably the scariest part of the ride for me, as I hate anticipation part of the launch. The first launch ins’t actually that bad at all, kinda just feels like you’re on an airplane driving down a runway. The launch ends once you’re thrown into the first inversion which kinda lets you hang there for a bit ( to my enjoyment ) but it also left my friends in critical condition, so be warned! After that you’re trusted into a “traditional loop” and it felt weird without the overhead restrains, but honestly it was FUN! After the first loop, the cart gets flung and turned into a verity of tame-ish elements until the final turn which introduces the second launch. Contrary to what everyone in their momma told me, it wasn’t bad at all tbh. I barely even remember what the second launch felt like and more so what it lead to….which was my biggest worry. The 155ft drop was 100% the biggest source of my worries as I am a big baby when it comes to coasters. I swear on my life I didn’t get the stomach feeling at all. It was the most magical, trilling, and relieving experiences in my life! It kinda just pushed wind in my face? Nothing serious like hulks first launch/drop. After that we flipped into a 3 second long stall which was fun but not something to worry about, as you don’t really come off the seat until it’s over. After that you get a series of twists and turns until the fabled Mossasaurus roll appears ( dun dun dddduuuunn. ) I was told time and time again that this was SERIOUS. It really wasn’t lol, you kinda just do it, but because it’s on top of the lake I think people freaked out over it, but it’s nothing scary! After the roll you hear the clapping of various other people congratulating you on not dying ( awesome! ) All in all, probably the best experience of my life that I missed out on like 2 separate times because I was told it was “intense.” Tbh, it kinda felt like a infinitely better Cosmic Rewind? If you’ve been on that, then you can do Velocicoaster no problem! I hope that whoever is reading this gains the courage to go on this mystical ride, because I promise it’s worth it! Have a...
Read moreI’m a roller coaster enthusiast and this is seriously the best roller coaster I’ve ever been on. I’ve ridden it so many times and it just never gets old. They perfected the design of this coaster! You NEVER get that (awful) stomach drop feeling on this ride! It was so carefully crafted to prevent this it seems! And it’s SO smooth. It’s literally the smoothest coaster I’ve ever been on aside from Hagrid’s (which isn’t a traditional coaster).
The queue is air conditioned VERY well & provides MUCH needed relief after being out in the extreme heat & humidity. This is a fantastic ride to do if you’re in search of relief! It’s COLD!! (Which is GOOD!) Universal PLEASE make this a standard on all of your rides/indoor areas during the summer!! It would help relieve the heat stroke problems SO much!!!
Plus the theming!! Omg the theming is incredible!!! Clear through the queue & ride it’s perfect & so detailed!!! Universal PLEASE make this a standard moving forward!!! It immerses you so well into the ride which is critical for any ride!!!
If you are nervous about riding this coaster, don’t be!!! If you’ve ridden Hagrid’s & enjoyed it, you will almost certainly love this one! Hagrid’s gives you that drop feeling at that one spot but this one never gives it to you. It’s just a full minute and a half or so of constant thrill!!! Definitely a must ride!
Fun fact! The background of the video in the queue past the lockers automatically changes to night time at night! Pay attention at and after sunset!
NOTES/TIPS: You CANNOT bring your phone or anything that is loose & you will go through metal detectors to ensure you don’t bring your phone/anything else. They provide FREE lockers about 3 quarters the way into the queue. The lockers are two sided!! When you put your stuff in there, you will be opening it from the other side! Use caution when loading it so you don’t dump your phone on the other side! Keep note of the number/color of the locker you use. To SCAN your ticket, hold it about an inch AWAY from the scanner, it’ll scan better. Keep that ticket with you to reopen the locker.
The single rider line bypasses all of AWESOME theming in the main queue! It might be worth trying the normal queue at least once to see the queue. Please do NOT take up the single rider line if you aren’t actually a single rider, it ruins it for the rest of us who are actual single riders & ends up taking longer than the normal queue. Plus most people go on with an even amount of riders with them so they don’t pull from the single rider line too much, causing it to take longer when there’s a line in it. Your group WILL be separated quite far apart! Don’t assume they’ll be...
Read moreYou see some of the track belonging to the Velocicoaster when walking around in the area, but nothing really will prepare you for this ride, which will be the best minute or so of your life.
The interior itself is rather simple compared to Kong: Skull Island for example, but that's not really that important for me tbh. There's a statue in the first room of Blue and her sisters which I find really cool, and (spoiler) the moving raptor, which makes sounds and everything further in, is pretty amazing to look at. It looks so real!
The wait time overall is pretty high though, so you should prepare mentally for that. We went just when the rain started to slow, so the time was 50min, which is extremely low for this coaster. (I recommend expecting everything from 70 to 130min) but go! Trust me it's worth it!
Then there are the lockers and metal detectors, which are much needed as well and it's free so that's also pretty cool. (Edit: The lockers are INSIDE the coaster so no need to find one outside in the park)
The Video with (spoiler) Claire and Owen from Jurassic World is pretty cool too, I didn't expect to see them so that was pretty nice. The design of the coaster wagons are pretty awesome. It's always two people together and it's much space between them. The black and blue looks majestic and dangerous at the same time.
(YOU HAVE TO STAY AND WATCH WHEN IT GETS DARK PEOPLE! Spoiler: One of the wagons GLOWS blue at night!!)
I'm someone who lives Rollercoasters more than everything, but even I was a little nervous tbh. From the very first moment the Velocicoaster impressed me. From the little moment of waiting and starting, to the turns, the short track of taking up more speed, the mosasaurus roll, (the up and down was sick! I felt like flying!) The ride itself is extremely smooth and none of the elements feels forced, not like in the Hulk.
Never be afraid! They regularly check the coaster every minutes and would never put us in danger. The wagons and the harness are extremely secure. You will love it, trust me.
The Velocicoaster really is a worthy representative for the next Generation...
