A decent park that's steadily improving but still has a long way to go. Everything here is relatively new, mostly built out in 2016. There's a bmx track with a wilderness component, I don't ride so I can't judge it. But it's of moderate size, with a variety of surfaces. It does seem a little cramped in in places. It features a little bike repair station with all the tools for basic repairs, pretty cool. There is also a dog park. It consists of two sections, one for small and one for large dogs. They are both on the smallish side, with no distinguishing features. There are a couple of concrete drainage pipes laying around, but no trees, shade, seats logs or anything else. Hell rarely are there even dogs. Just a big, empty rectangular patch of muddy grass. It works I guess, but TBH it feels like the city didn't really try and was just checking a box. Outside the dog park is a neighborhood garden which is coming along nicely and a sand volley ball course. . There's a long path running from the parking lot through it all with a couple of benches spaced around. That's about it. The rest of the park is a big grassy field with no shade. There's no playground, no picnic area, no pavilion, no restrooms (there's a portapotty set up if you wanna risk it.). There's a lake here, but you can really see it or access it, it's behind some deep thick.growth that is almost totally unpassable. There is a tiny section in the corner where you can get close to the lake that may have been used as boat launch at a point, but there's nothing really to see. The park feels very unfinished right now. I haven't seen many improvements lately but I'm hoping the city continues to work on it. It has a lot of potential but as of right now it's...
Read moreNew MTBer here (3 weeks). I haven't been on a bicycle in decades. Just discovered FL has some extreme bike parks like alafia, santos, Virginia Key, chuck Lennon. But since I'm older now and not 14 I thought I'd work my way up to them. Just bought a Polygon T7 and hit this place as my 3rd park. I was excited to see it was rated a blue on Trail forks. But super disappointed when riding it. It's definitely a green. I took the black diamond and the wood features were interesting, but definitely not challenging and a little bit of a let down after bombing the Gravity Destroyer in Mount Dora. The black should maybe be a blue at best. But the drops at the end were fun to session.
So why 5 stars? As a new MTBer it was definitely interesting to ride. It does have a lot of variety for what it is. And it's a great close place to practice skinnies and drops. I've even been back a 2nd time as a last minute outing without driving to far. I appreciate the work they put into the wood features. And honestly, surprised to find something like this in the middle of the city.. If you live within 20 min. Worth a visit. But it's not something you'd drive a hour+ for like santos, alafia,...
Read moreWow. Boys have been exploring mountain biking last 5 months. Didn't expect this after doing a bunch of wilderness stuff. Way cool to have a "track" course. Was a little unsure how decent it was seeing the little kids, but EVERYONE can have a good time here. Kids from 4 to 60 were out, new and seasoned.
Then the trail that was created is just a great use of space. Not a lot of straight aways in order to fit it in, so not high speed, but a great variety some of which we haven't seen other places we have been exploring (Soldiers, Markham, etc). You can take it easy and just have a light ride through the woods, or get technical and hit a couple of tight turns and challenges. And for you extremists---just wait, it's coming soon!
Excellent work by SORBA, Orlando, and others involved. Thank...
