Palatka is Bass Capitol and many fishing tournaments are held here yearly (some televised). The riverfront offers a kayak launch. Some groups gather at times for a "Full moon paddle".
Don't miss river streets historic First Presbyterian church and the sound of the hourly bell tower. The historic church is a magnet for photographers. The church is beautifully lit at night and awakens the beauty of the old stained glassed windows. All are welcomed to join at the 10:30 service.
Palatka is one of many stops along the way which Bartam took many years ago and recorded his finding of Indian life style along the banks. Palatka is host to many festivals and such including the Bartram frolic, Azalea festival, Blue crab festival, the county fair, and many in-between arts and crafts tents and food trucks. Palatka offers a private or public marina as well as off shore anchoring for your sail boat. Speaking of, on the first Saturday of May, Palatka has a spectacular sail boat race from here to Jacksonville. It is surely a sight to see.
Palatka is a quaint quiet town with just the right amount of socializing experiences. Palatka is a small to medium community, yet they always seem to pull together to better our town as well as aiding each other in called for situations.
The riverfront park offers a fenced in play area for the kiddos and cleaned public restroom facilities. The public boat ramp is large and able to launch up to four boats at a time.

He sells bait, fishing poles & all things for your fishing.experience if you forgot something at home. Henry was so very helpful to my son with what bait he should get. He also guided him on which hook & bait to use on that hook & even which pole. My son luckily brought both his regular pole and bait caster. Well he kept getting “backlash” it was somewhat frustrating and wasted a whole lot of line. So after Henry noticed how my son casted, he tightened his reel & also offered more advice to not click it twice when casting. It made our time so much better. Henry is also a teacher by trade & he really made a nice impact on my son for his desire to learn more...
Read moreBeautiful, sunny day on a Sunday in January. The park was practically empty at 10. My son played at the gated playground that include a slide, mini obstacle course, swings and a zip line. There's a large covered picnic table and very small, low to the ground table with 4 seats. The playground states that it is designed for ages 2-5. The park also has a small dock, and a "stage" area, grassy knolls and plef shade trees. The panoramic view of the river is worth any trip. Taking away 1 star for the trash cans that were over filled and trash on the ground...
