Was in town for the 2/1/25 Mammoth March at Dunns Creek State Park and lodging options are limited in the Palatka area if one is as nutty as I am about staying somewhere CLEAN. My options were: (A) splurge a little and stay somewhere reputed to be NICE and CLEAN or (B) go cheap and be up all night freakin' out about uninvited "roommates" crawling around. I'm beyond happy that I opted for (A).

Grand Cables is a beautiful, CLEAN, old-fashioned bed and breakfast, with charming gentleman host Tate, who went above and beyond accommodating my various requests (e.g., store my ice packs in the freezer; help myself to a late night snack of toast and jam; arrive after typical check-in hours), and got up extra early to have fresh coffee brewing and a homemade breakfast-sandwich-to-go ready and waiting for me despite that it was about 2 hours earlier than the advertised time of breakfast.

The rooms were immaculate (and unlike some other Reviewers who misleadlingly report a hotel or AirBNB as "clean," I actually look in the corners and under the beds), the bed spectacularly comfortable, and the room temperature perfect b/c one controls it for his/her sleeping room.

The front porch with rocking chairs was just so quaint that it actually compelled me to sit my Type-A ass down and enjoy the quiet ambiance of the neighborhood and wonder if I had driven onto the set of a...

Absolutely beautiful historic home. We stayed in the Drawing room which had a suite with the ladies parlor room... the only downsides of the room we stayed in is the bathroom is not attached so you have to walk across the hall (clothes required) and people kept opening the parlor room doors (I believe it was the owners trying to get their paperwork because we checked in early).

Quiet hours are from 10:30-730 and I believe that is when the doors get locked so you can’t get back in. Bathroom was spacious (extra towels are available) and the bed was comfortable. They offer you a small menu and a selection of breakfast times. I ordered a bacon/egg/cheese on an English Muffin and my husband ordered waffles with blueberries... very good!

Before we left, the owner offered us a tour of the home and gave us the history of the property. Well worth the 15 minutes extra! Beautiful home and I’m glad that the current owner saved the place as it had been vacant for decades, minus a remodel in 1995 which had been undone by...

Absolutely gorgeous! We were traveling north from Tampa and were looking for a place to spend the night, when my mom found this place. The rest of us didn't know what to expect, so when we pulled up, we were absolutely amazed by the grandeur of the building. It was nighttime, and all the Christmas lights were on, so it just beautiful. Far more breathtaking was the interior, though. As we stepped in, the intricate decorations and luxurious style of the house just blew us away. As we explored more of the house when making our way up to the second floor to our rooms, we just got more and more impressed. It felt like time travel, honestly. Mr. Tate and Mrs. Jessie were also very kind and welcoming, and he truly completed our stay by offering us a guided tour of the house, as we were the only ones staying there. The food was good too and Mrs. Jessie is very sweet. I highly recommend for anyone to experience this if only for one night. Thank you so much for...

⭕️Hidden Gems in Florida – A spot most travelers easily miss. Plus, this historic B&B with a Beijing-born hostess. More and more people are road-tripping through Florida, but if you prefer quiet towns, I highly recommend Palatka in Jacksonville. Today, I’m spotlighting a charming B&B called **Grand Gables Inn Bed & Breakfast**. The owner is American but lived in Beijing for five years, and his wife is a Beijing native. After retiring from her job in Miami, they settled in Palatka to be closer to family and turned this place into a B&B. This inn has a fascinating history—built in 1935 by an officer during the American Civil War, it went through bankruptcy, changed hands multiple times, and was eventually purchased by the current owners in 2017 for $290K. They spent six months renovating it before opening as a guesthouse in December. The place still retains traces of its 1935 origins—the exterior structure and design remain largely untouched, including a wartime escape tunnel and even an original oven. Stepping inside feels like a fairytale—the rooms are stunning, like a princess’s castle chamber, with elegant vintage decor that’s both luxurious and incredibly photogenic. 📍**Grand Gables Inn Bed & Breakfast** Address: 603 Emmett St., Palatka, FL 📞 (386) 329-6166 #FloridaTravel #HiddenGems #HistoricInn #BedAndBreakfast #Palatka #RoadTrip #TravelInspo

We toured the Grand Gables Inn with the GFWC Woman’s Club of Palatka Christmas Tour of Homes. The owner was gracious and showed us many interesting things about this Queen Anne style home. The bedrooms are spacious and look like most have queens beds. The owner stated the each bedroom has its own private bathroom. There is a turret, at the very top of the house, which we were allowed to enter. One of the most interesting things that the owner showed us was the hidden tunnel that originally went all the way down to the St. John’s River. A short length of it was excavated but the remainder is still blocked off. Staying at this Bed and Breakfast would be a wonderful alternative to staying in a motel.

It's a beautiful piece of history. You shouldnt expect perfection. I was thrilled we were able to stay there. The tour of the house was fabulous, we learned so much of the history surrounding this house. Just an overall incredible experience. Also, we had a ball just wandering around the historic neighborhoods around River Walk and old downtown. I took many pictures of the gorgeous murals painted all around town, and we met so many people. The restaurant, Mariachilles, was wonderful. I highly recommend the Jalepeno Margaritas. So delish! Also, The Magnolia was incredible for lunch. A wonderful weekend!
