Lamar County Historical Museum is the "L" at the south end of Heritage hall. It seems like 🦁 Narnia ↝ Bigger on the inside than on the outside ↜. You walk into a big rectangular display room ▌w/ more recent historical subject matter, followed by an octagonal 🛑 portal to themed rooms, & finally to a huge square room ⬜, complete w/ log cabin & artifacts necessary to19th century (1800's) living. The museum is non-profit & manned by volunteers. It's chock-full of alluring history & could fascinate me for hours. 🏈 My favorite exhibit in the 1st room was the Gene Stallings area, but it's only one of many captivating schemes. 🛑 My favorite themed rooms accessed from the octagonal portal were the black history panoramas. ⬜ Lastly, having the enjoyment from & unique insight of my guide thru ⅔ 's of the museum, we enter the huge back room w/ 100's of 19th century daily life-artifacts & a log cabin. I was amazed. ✅ Give Lamar County Historical Museum a try & find Your favorite...
Read moreGreat experience. Every piece of their whimsical collection is well thought out and lovely presented, and the guide who gave us a tour truly showed us why Texas is the friendliest State. We couldn’t love more the tour they gave us, so did our kids. Really, this visit was the cherry on the top of our trip! Thanks a lot! As a single suggestion, I would encourage adding a venmo qr code printed on a piece of paper on the counter, to make it possible to donate to the museum after the exceptional and fun tour if you aren’t...
Read moreThis was a fantastic place to visit. It is a free museum of local history. Everything there has been donated, and the people who work there are volunteers. When we went, an older lady was working with her husband. She took the time to take both my kids and I through the entire museum and explain all the rooms and displays. It was a fantastic experience. If we are ever in the area again, we will be back. I highly...
