The Smoot Theatre — Attraction in Parkersburg

This historic vaudeville theatre is a treasure and so is the woman who saved it from becoming a parking lot. It provides professional touring shows, performances from local performing arts schools, an exceptional children's choir,, a summer camp where children learn about history of vaudeville, local history, , music, dance and acting which culminates in a performance, and the Smoot has its own band that creates a wonderful top notch Christmas show each year with LIVE music that is second to none. Not a bad seat in the house, which can be cramped if you are tall or a large person. (it was built when folks were smaller) However, it's truly a treasure and you should not miss the opportunity to support this theatre and attend any family friendly show...

I am very unhappy with this relic of long ago. The seating is not made for tall people. I had to enjoy my daughter's show while standing in the back. Even though holding on to things that were once important to our community is vital to our history, I believe it is time for this relic to be condemned and something new that will better serve our community be put in it's place.
