We have been antiquing for quite a while and been to a lot of different antique malls but regrettably we had a very unpleasant feeling this time at Pasadena Antique Center and Annex.
We brought three items to cashier. First item ran smoothly. The second item we picked was at the station which had a giant 50% off sign; however, when the cashier lady was writing the receipt we noticed that she only put 20% off so we immediately inquired her about that. She told us that item was 20% off. She said, yes it is confusing because the seller has two different codes, one for 50% off and the other for 20% off. And the item we picked was 20% off. Since my husband really liked the item so we bought it anyway. The third item was a ceramic jewelry box with a stand as a set. There is also another set like this next to it. The cashier lady kept telling us they are two separate items. The funny thing is there's only one price tag. She insisted the ceramic jewelry box and the stand are two separate items and must be paid that way. She wanted to contact the seller and get back to us. We said that's fine. We told both of the cashier ladies that my husband actually was interested in the stand, not much the box. Next day we got a call from them and the seller wanted $12 for that stand only.
In comparison, we have been to Pasadena Antique Mall for several times and we really love that place. Over there my husband found a similar set as mentioned above and actually liked the stand. Pasadena Antique Mall insisted it's a set with one price tag. If we buy it we must get the vase.
On the other hand, Pasadena Antique Center and Annex insisted the ceramic and the stand are two separate items even though there's only one price tag. They made us feel we're lying and stealing which left a really unpleasant feeling for us. Neither do we like the way how they mislead customers to think all items at a particular station were 50% off. If we hadn't looked at the receipt while it was being written down, we would not have found out till we got home.
We have been to so many different antique malls all over southern California, this is the first. Sorry to say we will not return to this place and will not recommend this place to our family and friends. And please look closely when your receipt is being written down and make sure if what you get is a set or separate items even with one price tag and...
Read moreAn amazing maze (see what I did there) full of antiques- Some with the correct price point but many just plain old pricey! There are Native American rugs on the first floor, Chanel and Moschino bags in clear display cases, fab fur coats, an entire Art Deco section, a Chinese antique bed (you’ll know it when you see it); There is a neat collection of all sorts of Zippo lighters by one of the sets of stairs- The lowest price I saw was $400- YIIIIKES! I get it, it’s someone’s collection and it took time and dedication to curate. This place is fun, nonetheless, and as others mentioned, be prepared to browse for hours. Take your allergy meds. Everyone working there is super friendly. One of the ladies even gave my dog a treat (He’s small and I carried him in a bag the entire time; Dont be disrespectful and parade your Great Dane around here). My favorite (and so far only purchase) from here is a mint condition 70s (?) hand-crocheted heavy fringe maxi dress. I’m waiting for my bf to leave our apartment long enough for me to put it on, twirl and belt out...
Read moreI understand the nature and arrangement of the shop is attractive to looters and that precautions need to be made to negate it, but I saw none of the white customers be followed and checked up upon like I was. My experience quickly became hurtful and humiliating :(. I appreciate the owner's apology, I wanted to say more but I was holding back tears. Please be more mindful that for every passerby that you feel like need to be kept a closer eye on, is a risk in targeting an innocent person who can carry a painful memory. Being racially profiled is not a fun feeling, especially when you go to said place with the intention to celebrate and treat yourself with jewlery. I hope the owner and the rest of his team know that I had no intention of...
