I’m sure each department is unique, but I found the counseling program to be significantly lacking in mentorship opportunities, accountability by leadership and support to students navigating both the masters and PhD programs. The school is all about checking boxes and not about actually learning anything. In fact, I had faculty literally tell me to just check boxes and I refused to accept that a PhD program should be about checking boxes. Maybe I expect too much, but it was my assumption that PhD programs were about advancing a field not asking you to just regurgitate talking points like you’re in a cult. Also, if you try to have a meaning with leadership about concerns and feeling like you aren’t getting what you need from the program, nothing changes and you are labeled a troublemaker. For a program that prides itself on being social justice oriented and “humanistic”, it’s approach is very colonialist, and it feels...
Read moreI've obtained my master's and in the final stages of completing my doctorate at Saybrook in the Mind Body Medicine program (now called Integrative health science, I believe). Attending this school has been a game changer for me personally and professionally. The caliber of people who attend the school are incredible and it opens ones professional networks and capacities for creative work. The school is well organized. The hybrid model of education, which entails residential academic retreats and online working and collaboration is in sync with the changing world of education. Education is a personal choice and if Saybrook's educational offerings are what you are interested in, I would highly recommend considering...
Read moreHonestly, f this place. I spent way too much money getting a psychology degree here because I am a Millennial who didn't understand that academia is a broken system. What have I gotten for it? Nothing. This place is a joke. People go here when they can't pass the APA requirements for normal colleges. It's a community made up of depressed academics, burnout trustfund wooks, and morally indignant city types trying to guilt trip you for being a white person. I wish I could send my degree back and get my money back. Perhaps ritualistically burning it will suffice. I'll be sure to edit this post and upload pictures...
