A co-worker and I brought a client to swim for her 30th birthday She wanted nothing else. I've visited the YWCA in Pekin. But we decided to try this place. It was AMAZING that they had a large and flat area in the locker room that we could lay or client down on and change her in and out of her suit. We haven't found that anywhere. 2nd, we were able to put her in her shower chair and literally roll her from the locker room into the water. In the heated pool, there's a hydraulic lift so individuals can be lowered down. That was SO NICE! The facilities offered, and the manager at the pool, have made us decide to come back with other clients, and our own families, and we're looking into getting a membership. I toggled between a 3 or 4 star rating solely for this reason. With the exception of the manager in the pool and the AMAZING customers who were all incredibly accommodating and nice, I cannot say the same for a single lifeguard I encountered. When we were done in the heated pool, I was told to tell a lifeguard and they'd assist us with getting our client out via the hydraulic life. The 1st young man I asked literally rolled his eyes at me and said something under his breath. I told him I have difficulty hearing, and asked for his assistance again. He aaid6 "I SAID I don't know how to work that" As he began to walk away I said "Im5sorry to bother you. The manager told me to get a lifeguard when we were finished for assistance. He pointed all the way across the pool area at her office and said "Well she's in there. If you need help, why don't you go get her then??" He then turned and walked away. I have to say that was THE RUDEST service ,( or disservice) I have EVER encountered in my ENTIRE life. The second lifeguard I asked for help was sitting in a chair with a fan on him and merely said "I don't know how to use that thing." He just left it at that. I did have to walk clear across the pool area and get the manager from her office. She said something to the second lifeguard about him not calling for her on her walkie and he just replied that he didn't even know she was there. Once again, she helped us. Even the custodian in the ladies locker room was nice. I RARELY complain on a review, to management, etc. However, those lifeguards... ESPECIALLY the young man I first encountered, should have a SERIOUS talk and be reprimanded for his behavior. We WILL be back. But if everything else wasn't so awesome, I would HAVE NEVER same back based on how incredibly rude, nasty, and disrespectful he was. Again, EVERYTHING else...
Read moreDisappointed Experience at RiverPlex Pool and aquatic manager. 29th, Sep, 2023
I recently visited the RiverPlex Pool with my family, expecting a fun-filled day of swimming and relaxation. However, my experience was marred by the pool's policy of not allowing kids to get into the pool.
Upon arrival, we were informed by manager Amanda that children were restricted from engaging in typical pool activities other than one day of the week, leaving them to not do anything. This rule contradicts the very essence of a family-friendly pool, where children should be encouraged to splash, play, and enjoy their time in the water as well as learn to swim with parents.
This restrictive policy not only disappointed my children but also frustrated many other parents at the facility. The atmosphere was far from lively, as the sound of laughter and excitement that usually fills a pool area was conspicuously absent. Instead, children were confined to sit and watch elder swim or watch instructors train kids how to swim with hefty fees of $30/class.
While safety regulations are important, there are more effective ways to ensure the well-being of all visitors without stifling the natural exuberance of children. Other family-friendly pools manage to strike a balance, implementing sensible rules while still allowing kids the freedom to play and have fun.
I hope that RiverPlex reevaluates its policies to create a more inclusive and enjoyable environment for families. A pool should be a place where children can explore, learn, and make happy memories. Sadly, my recent experience at RiverPlex fell far short of these expectations. That's why I decided to cancel membership until YMCA opens up their pool next summer.
Hope someone understands and change policy or else families with kids won't be coming to Riverplex gym anymore. I am also disappointed with manager Amanda for being too much focused on nat allowing kids of swim with adults unless kids are taking swim class. This is...
Read moreI love going to the Riverplex. The Silversneekers program is excellent. The lazy river is fun to walk in doing 45 laps in center of the lane equals 1 mile. I have back in October of last Fall did 78 laps or 1 mile and 3/4 of another. It was the only time that I was able to walk that much because I had developed severe blisters on the bottom of my feet that I had no idea of until I was getting out of the water. From 8:00 -10:00 Monday thru Friday morning in one pool we have a wonderful time playing Water Volleyball with a beachball anyone can join us. Our rules are very lax is just a wonderful, fun way of getting a good workout lot of cardio work. You don't even realize that you are exercising hard, you are just having a good time joking, laughing, hitting a beachball across the net. With the Silversneeker program which is runned by OSF where I check in, they check your blood pressure, pulse, oxygen, and if you're diabetic your blood sugar; then when you're done with your exercising you can check out the same way you checked in. If you are diabetic like I am then they want to make sure that you have something to eat especially if your numbers are not 100 to 120. They will tell you to take 3 or 4 glucose tablets then and eat some thing then test it again in about 15 minutes. My will as of Friday former family Doctor said to follow what they said because they were helping me to keep my blood sugar where it belongs. Everyone member of the staff at the Riverplex is kind, courteous and friendly as well as helpful. It is kept clean and in excellent condition at all times. They have all kinds of classes even a summer day camp for children as well as a kiddy pool which is attached to the lazy river and even a water slide which a child has to be at least 48inches tall to do, even then the parents must keep watch on their own children in the water. They have life guards that walk around and check each pool area every few seconds for...
