The Dora Nelson African America Art & History Museum is celebrating the art, history, culture and contributions of African Americans in the Inland Empire, and are dedicated to preserving the history of integrity and faith that is the foundation of our character. They give off a strong sense of community value and as being apart of the Perris Valley Chamber of Commerce reinforce the idea that a community should stand together. As a director of the Chamber and local attorney, I have noticed the steps towards equality and cleaning up the city that they have taken.

Read moreThis was a quaint place sharing the history of the first African American family to live in Perris Riverside County California. The tour guide was the daughter of the museum founder. She was knowledgeable and engaging.
All history is local history. As a public historian, I appreciate those stories about where African Americans migrated after Emancipation and how they were able to live their lives. The added bonus was hearing it from the perspective of a descendant.
The art displayed all had connections to people who lived in the area. A quick drive around the community allows one to see some of the locations mentioned during the tour.
