Lola, Lola, where to start? Well I did wear a Hawaiian shirt here which might have influenced things, but seeing the building itself with its brick and aged decor instantly flooded me with that comforting "hipster-in-a-box-coffeeshop" vibe. As if to say this what to expect. Hold up, let's go back a step, it's located in a nicely styled area of phoenix, which was refreshing in itself. However I entered through the retro faded yellow paint door to be greeted by handwriting style old window-on-the-wall menu and comfortably cluttered counterspace. I happened to have my hair in some vague ponytail/manbun configuration which also happened to be the style chosen by the barista, immediately leading me to mentally prepare for the "guy-with-that-type-of-hair-encounter-showdown", but somehow he averted with a casually confused aire and didn't let it overrule the purpose of our interaction. Coffee. Yes that's it, back to that. The small coffee was very small and in the range of two dollars fifty cents, which may sound excessive. Going forward I might add that I ordered as cheese danish on a whim and accidentally said I wanted it to go which possibly added the baristas mild confusion since I clearly intended to charge my phone on their many outlets, a lovely attribute that is far to rare in the coffeeshop world. Getting back to the matter at hand let me not waste your time, but, instead get right to the point. When I hesitantly let that first sip pass my lips I knew that Lola, outlets and above averagely tasting and priced coffee included,...
Read moreI saw someone review Lola Coffee on tiktok and thought I’d give it a try today as my bf and I were walking in dt phx. Honestly, it was nothing special. The coffee was pretty alright, my bf got hot mocha. I had ordered a matcha and was a little disappointed. Not sure if it was a new barista who made my drink, but as I watched them prepare my drink I noticed they had placed the matcha powder straight into the cold milk. If you’re familiar with matcha you know it needs to be mixed with a little hot water first, then put into milk otherwise it leaves clumps of matcha in the milk completely unblended. I’m not one to correct others, but looking back on it now I should’ve said something. For the price of the drink I just expected a little better. I had also ordered a blueberry muffin which was good, but again nothing special. Not sure if they are supposed to heat them up but mine was cold and a little stale. Overall, this place was alright. The vibe was very hipster-ish, I honestly felt scared ordering from the barista as they did not seem too lively or happy haha. I think I’ll give this place another try, as I’ve heard such good things about it. Maybe I’ll go to the Arcadia location instead...
Read moreBe careful if you have allergies when eating here. They don’t label their products as to whether they have allergens in them or not. As someone who has severe nut allergies, I thought I was safe with a cranberry orange muffin, but there were pecans. When I started to have a reaction I told the barista and her response was, “well, it was next to pastries with nuts.” After I told her and the other girls that it doesn’t matter and if nuts can’t been see in a product they should be labeled, the barista exclaimed in a condescending tone, “sorry, have a nice day!”
Dear manager, owner etc… consider that this is a liability. I had to ask fellow patrons for Benadryl and thankfully, they came through. Had that not had happened, I could be in the ER. This is complete negligence and you could 100% be sued for this. Please take this as a warning because it may not go so well next time. Also, you should probably educate your employees (especially the brunette barista working 2/7/25 @ 8:30 am) on the severity of allergies and maybe give them a lesson on customer service...
