If you're visiting Dollywood and love roller coasters, Wild Eagle is an absolute must. This ride isn’t just another coaster — it’s America’s first wing coaster, meaning you sit beside the track, not on top of it. That one design choice changes everything.
Located on top of a hill in Wilderness Pass, Wild Eagle looks majestic even from a distance. The eagle theming is impressive — the queue winds through a mountain temple with detailed eagle statues, carvings, and a soaring orchestral soundtrack that amps up your excitement. It’s very "Smoky Mountains meets epic aviation."
Once you board, you're strapped into a seat that hangs off either side of the track — no floor beneath you. That first drop? Unreal. You leave the station and climb a 210-foot lift hill, then plunge down a 135-foot drop that feels twice as tall thanks to the elevation.
You get a wild zero-G roll, vertical loops, Immelmann inversions, and heartline twists. Because you’re winged out from the track, the sensation of flying is incredible — your feet dangle, and every rotation makes you feel like you’re truly gliding through the mountains.
Wild Eagle is more than a roller coaster — it’s an experience. It’s part ride, part flight, part scenic tour. Between the engineering marvel, the mountain views, and the smooth-as-glass ride experience, this is one of the best coasters not just in Dollywood, but in...
Read moreIf you have never been on a "Wing" Coaster, this is a very good one to go on as your first. The ride is very smooth, and very fast. There are quite a few loops on the ride, so if you don't like to be turned upside down multiple times, beware.
I am not a fan of the "vest" harnesses that so many of the wing coasters are not using, as I do not feel they are comfortable at all. That is a personal opinion, but hey, thats what reviews are for.
I have been on this ride front, middle, and back. The front is very smooth, and has an awesome view. The pushing motion is far more gentle, so this is a great place to ride.
The middle to me is a dull area to ride in, as you can see the seats in front of you, and you are not getting pushed or pulled. It is also smooth. This is the best seat if you are a timid coaster person.
The back seats on this ride are rugged, and not for the faint hearted. There is a consider amount of pull on this ride, due to the unique nature of the ride. It is the roughest of all the seats, but also the most exhilarating.
All in all, this is an...
Read moreSmooth rolling coaster that's great for the thrill seeking amusement park goer. Get the fast past for this ride to bypass the long line to ride. Your feet dangle below you so if you have flip flops kick them to the side to avoid losing them. Also bigger riders might have a problem riding this ride due to the brace needing to be pushed down and buckled. I watched a guy struggle to get his buckled causing him to get switched to another seat. The operators and his friend then had to push down on his restraint which then buckled and secured. The thing is, this guy was in excellent shape but he had broader shoulders and was fairly muscular. He looked embarrassed bc they def draw attention to the situation by having you switch seats with another passenger and delaying the ride so everyone is staring at you. Surely this can be avoided to save the person's embarrassment by having a replicated seat with restraint at the front of the ride where riders can check to see if they are able to fit. Besides that...
