Thunderhead is easily one of Dollywood’s best coasters. It’s a super fun, high-energy ride that packs a lot of thrill without being overwhelming. The layout is filled with twists, turns, and some great airtime moments, especially if you sit toward the front. There’s also some really good lateral forces that keep you on your toes the whole time.
The ride is pretty smooth for a wooden coaster, especially with all the retracking work they’ve done over the past few years. It’s not perfectly glass-smooth — there are a few bumps here and there — but it’s very manageable and adds a little character without being uncomfortable. The seats are surprisingly comfortable and accommodating, which makes a big difference on a ride this intense.
One nice thing is that the line usually moves quicker than some of the other big rides in the park, though it can still get long during peak times. With a shorter height requirement and no inversions, Thunderhead is also a great “next step” coaster for anyone looking to level up their thrill experience.
Overall, Thunderhead delivers a fast-paced, exciting ride that’s both approachable and genuinely thrilling. Definitely a must-do when you’re...
Read moreThis was one of the first rollercoasters I have been on, and I was scared at first. I’ll just say this, “The Wildest Ride in the Woods” really does take its name. The ride is fun, but if your a starter for rollercoasters, don’t go on it. It’s rough and goes all over the place. The funny thing was my hoodie kept flying in my face and I couldn’t see the ride, lol. Heres the thing, I got on this ride 2 days ago from when im writing this, and I can’t stop shaking. The coaster wont get out of my head and I can’t sleep. Thats why I don’t recommend this ride for starters. If your used to these kinds of coasters, I...
Read moreThunderhead is a wooden roller coaster doesn’t have the really steep drop that some coasters have, it does have lots, and I mean lots of twists and turns. It reaches speeds close to 60-mph. It is a lot of fun but with all the twists and turns it is probably the roughest coaster at Dollywood. I would not wear glasses or try carrying and unsecure cell phones or purses on this ride. Chances are high that you will lose them. I would also not ride this coaster if you suffer from back or neck issues. It is rough but one of the most popular Coasters in the park and lines are often long. It is rough but...
