Afterburn is an inverted roller coaster located at Carowinds amusement park in Charlotte, North Carolina. After more than two years of planning and construction, the roller coaster opened on March 20, 1999. #amusementpark #Amusem #cedarpoint #cedarpark #cedarfairentParkThrills #AmusementParkFun #familyweekend #familytime #family #rayban #raybanmeta #raybansunglasses #Hersheypark #thrillseeker #thrillride #sixflags #sixflagsgreatadventure

Afterburn is my favorite inverted coaster in the country, and I've ridden all but two. It's just about perfect in every way. It's got plenty of inversions with six, and there are no repeats. There are no breaks between elements aside from a slower hill between the batwing and last corkscrew. It's compact, which makes for fast pacing. This is intensified by the coaster's environment which has trees all around and two tunnels. And the inversions are all intense, with a whippy corkscrew and zero-g roll, two different kinds of loops that are both intense one after another (there is a tunnel between them), and my favorite part, the batwing, which has another tunnel at the bottom. The ride ends with a tight and intense helix. A helix makes any ride better, so this is icing on the cake for an already perfect coaster. If you like smooth, intense, compact, fast paced rides, and especially if you like going upside down, Afterburn is for you.

The pacing of this B&M invert is incredible! It’s not the most intense invert they have made but wow it just flows so perfectly through the layout. When you get that front row you really do feel like you are in a fighter jet. The views of the track are great and it’s really cool when you go over the start of the lift hill half way through the ride. I love that this ride doesn’t have a mid-course break run. You fly straight into the breaks and immediately want another ride.

Today ( 04/23/2025 ) My daughter went to Carowinds with her friend and her mom. They rode on After burn and the person on the same isle had trouble with the seatbelt because supposedly the seatbelt couldn’t find the woman cause the seatbelt was supposed to be for kids. So they switched my child to the woman’s seat who had problems with her seatbelt. They checked her thinking it was all good but on the drop my daughter felt the seatbelt get loose. She told me she was screaming to her friend “ My seat belt is loose ! “ but her friend was screaming so she couldn’t hear her . My daughter had to hold on tight to the ride just so she wouldn’t fall out of the seat. She told me she was crying and told the ride operators. The ride operators never asked if she was okay or injured they just asked her what happened and what her seat was . That was very scary for my daughter and the ride operators should really check the seats well and not put people in seats when there was already a complaint for it not working well. The operator didn't report what happened, and my daughter's friend's mother was at the park for the first time and couldn't find the customer service department. She told me what had happened when she got home! I hope this comment is helpful to someone so they don't have to go through a situation like the one my daughter had to go...

The coaster is great. On july 6, 2019 we rode it in the afternoon. This is the 7th time I’ve ridden something today and the seats are not filled all the way. This is not due to lack of riders. The riders are all still stuck in the line. The empty seats come from a staff that doesn’t care. They were standing around just staring off into the distance looking for their future careers. The person talking on the radio sounds like they are gargling the microphone and a mouthful of pop rocks. They had no sense of urgency or efficiency. I’m pretty disappointed that it took me 40 minutes to get onto the ride, given that i walked right up to it on the fast lane.

Again folks this isn’t the only ride with staff like this. This seems to be a trend at this park. This isn’t my first time at this park. I’m actually an avid cedar fairs attendee. Might be my last time to this...
