WHAT HAPPENED: Came here for LCD screen replacement. Had to wait 1 month for parts ordered on eBay (pay 50% deposit). Once delivered, I brought my phone in for the replacement & was told that they would call me once they were done. Didn't receive any call until had to call them near to closing time to check. Don't think I would have gotten my phone back in time if I didn't call!
Marcin, the manager & person working on my phone, informed that camera was damaged while attempting to pry open the screen. Both front & rear cameras couldn't be used. He would have to order the parts off eBay (?!) from China to replace the camera. First time I came here, I was told that parts are manufacturer-approved/OEM. So you can imagine the horror when he said parts are ordered from eBay & that they are reliable.
He then requested remaining 50% payment, adding that if I left with an intact LCD screen and didn't care about my camera, they would have no way of ensuring that I will pay remaining 50%. #1, you cause more damage while replacing the screen. #2, you order eBay parts - while noting they are OEM - to replace the damage. #3. you request payment for unfinished & broken work. Horrible customer service policy & unreliable to expect from UBIF! Customers should not have to pay unless all damage was fixed, including those caused by the repair process!
More problems the next day: Replaced screen is not responsive, keyboard lags, flashlight & vibrate function don't work.
I wouldn't advise anyone to come here to fix their phones at all. You can find a better job elsewhere (even DIY).
WHY 90-DAY WARRANTY DOESN'T MATTER: I am fully aware of the UBIF policy that phone is covered by 90 days warranty. Unfortunately, it's hard to trust them to do a good job after what happened. Brought in a perfectly working phone and by the end of the repair process, got back a phone that I barely use because crucial functions are damaged. While screen no longer has cracks, phone lacks a camera, flashlight, responsive screen & vibration - severely compromising quality of life when using a phone.
To have them fix what they broke only means that they will order more eBay parts & replace the original parts. Reliability & legitimacy of these 3rd-party parts are questionable. I wouldn't be surprised if my phone broke even more when replacing these parts! These risks aren't worth taking, especially after they've broken customer trust & relationship. The only desired outcome left is either a refund or brand new replacement, both of which I doubt will be followed through after the kind of unprofessional service I received.
UPDATE 07/16/19: Tyler from customer service (separate from this UBIF branch) reached out after I left a poor review on their website. He was professional, knowledgeable & helpful in trying to find mutual resolution. He agreed to speak to the full-time manager of this UBIF branch. Next day, he informed me to go back in for a 50% refund and to perform full diagnostics to verify the reported problems after the repair process.
2nd TRY 07/19/19: Went in for 2nd diagnostics by full-time manager, Mark. He was understanding, took this problem seriously & worked hard to resolve them. After ~3 hours, didn't hear back so went in to check on the status. He had decided to order a replacement used phone online. This would be faster & cheaper for both parties than if replacement parts were to be ordered, including delivery wait & workmanship time. Picked up replacement phone next week.
So far, I'm happy with the replacement. It is identical specs to original phone and works as expected. Best compromise in this situation. Unfortunately, I still had to go through the hassle of the initial incidents, wait times, transferring phone data, and dealing with half-broken phone. For future customers, it seems this branch is pretty back-logged. If you don't hear from them, definitely call or go in to check the status of your repair. This was consistent in my experience throughout the process where I didn't hear back in the time agreed on &...
Read moreTake your device somewhere else, or fix it on your own. I brought in my PC on Tuesday because there was an "available" appointment slot for that day. The guy there tells me that I should get a call about the diagnosis in 1-2 days. I said thank you very much. Considering that this was the first week of school and I needed my computer to do my assignments, I willingly gave them the $40 fee to take a look at it, believing that I would have my computer up and running in 2 days. It's 2 days later (Thursday) and I still haven't gotten a call back. I call them myself and ask if there are any updates. The same guy from Tuesday says that they are a little backed up and that they will give me a call with the full diagnosis the next day. The next day (Friday) comes and I don't get a call. I call them again and they're giving me a "diagnostic" in the form of "it could be this or that" (???). They tell me to give them until the next day for a full diagnosis, and that they will call me. Saturday comes, just two hours before they close and I still haven't gotten call. I call them and they're saying I will get a full diagnosis on Monday. At this point I'm just done. I have assignments to do for school and each day I'm expecting to have my computer to do them because that's what I was told by these morons. I said enough is enough, so I go there myself, take my PC back, and demand a refund. After all, I was simply lied to for a week straight and received none of the service I paid for. A different guy is working there when I go in this time, and he says some bs about the booking being done by a different person so he can't help me blahblahblah. He says to contact the place on Tuesday and speak to the manager for the refund. I take my PC back. I take a guess as to what the problem is and I fixed it in 2 hours. I give them a call on Tuesday for the refund, and I realize that the manager is the same guy that received my PC last Tuesday. He says the $40 is non refundable. He says that PC's take around a week. I was hearing this for the first time. I make the claim that the service I paid for was absolutely non-existent in the timeframe that was promised to me, and I asked why, as a customer, I was lied to so many times. Mind you, the same guy that told me the diagnosis would be ready the next day for three consecutive days denies all claims of having lied to me. I told him I have absolutely no problem with my PC taking a week to be fixed. This way, I would have been able to plan accordingly like borrowing a separate computer to do my work if I was simply informed about it up front. They lie to you and gaslight you into thinking you made it up. He didn't even know that I had taken back my PC a few days prior. I understand that a service can be backed up. However, I paid the $40 because I was TOLD I would get a diagnosis in 1-2 days. The cost of repair set me back $100 and 2 hours doing it on my own. Who knows how much and how long they would have taken to do...
Read moreTheyBreakuFix. I have never written a review before but this was the worst experience I have had with a business ever. Ruined my laptop. I had a small crack in my laptop screen which otherwise was running great. I thought since this was an easy fix I'd drop it off at the nearby uBreakiFix. I dropped it off on December 28, 2020 and was told it would not be a problem to fix but it may take two weeks as they were a bit backed up. I said that was fine and then waited three weeks without hearing anything. I called and was told they had ordered the wrong part and it would take another week. I waited another three weeks and did not hear anything. I show up in person and was told they had again ordered the wrong part and it would take another week. At this point, I was frustrated but strange things can happen and so I decide to wait another two weeks to ensure they had enough time to get the part and fix it. Again, I hear absolutely nothing from them. I show up after the two weeks (we are now into March over two months after I dropped it off) and am told yet again they had ordered the wrong part. At this point, I ask for my laptop back and am told they need 15 minutes to put it back together. After 15 minutes, I am given my laptop back but with a different charger. I return home, turn on the computer only to see the screen is now entirely cracked and destroyed and the display was absolutely wrecked. To recap, we have gone from a small crack to an entirely destroyed screen. (I was told later by someone that it was likely they attempted to pry the screen off as if it was an iPhone. Totally incompetent.) I return to the store and am told they will (again) order the right part and give it to me free to go to someone else. I wait (another) week and without hearing from them show up only to have them state that they would do the repair for me. I say thanks but no thanks and mercifully they gave me the new screen they had ordered without much hassle. I take it to another technician who informed me it was (again) the wrong freaking part and did not fit on my laptop. Fortunately, the new (competent) technician was able to order the right part and fix it in a few hours. Took him a total of 4 days for the part and fix. Great, right? Well, yes but remember that wrong charger they gave me? Now, I have a workable screen but the battery will not charge and is running so slow when plugged in as to be unworkable. I have ordered a new charger which I can only hope will resolve this issue. It is now the middle of April. Again, I went from a small crack to having no workable laptop and out several hundred dollars thanks to these clowns. Save yourself the trouble and avoid this place at...
