My wife and I reside in Philadelphia and for reasons irrelevant to this post began searching for a long-term vehicle for her use. She found this business on an online search and was very interested in either of two Toyota Highlanders that were currently on the lot. We took the trek out to the business, traveling well over an hour as she was interested in the listed price of the vehicle. The sales associate that met us was very kind and allowed us to see the inside of the vehicles as well as to turn on the vehicles. My wife was very interested in the red Highlander that was available however we noted that the sunroof was unable to open or close properly due to a hanging material possibly, weather stripping. The associate assured us that if we decide to take the vehicle that they would make sure to fix that part. The sales associate also identified that they were aware of the issue and were awaiting parts to fix that particular item. We were satisfied with that answer however when we asked about the possibility of taking the vehicle for a test drive we were told that we can only test drive the vehicle if we became pre-approved. A practice That neither of us have been approached with at any other dealership in Pennsylvania or New Jersey. We were interested in the vehicle so we decided to go along with the information. We went inside and they took our information and gave it to their finance department which was upstairs in their tiny shack. About 20 minutes later the finance person comes downstairs and greets us and brings us to his desk and it is only then after the pre-authorizations go through that we discovered that the price of the vehicle was increased by $2,000 with no prior knowledge. In addition to that they also attempted to tack on a forced warranty which we clearly stated that we did not want for an additional $2,000 and were told "oh well the banks might not approve it if you don't take the warranty." With a clear understanding that this is not the only establishment that sells vehicles and certainly not the only one within distance of our location we confronted them on these numbers and they said it was their "marketing practice" to list a price of a vehicle and then to place in the description that the price shown is the price only after a $2,000 deposit is given. As we were discussing costs we also disclosed to them about the issue with the vehicle and they immediately had their mechanic go out to the vehicle and somehow was able to repair the vehicle within minutes even though we were told by the sales associate that they were waiting for a part. Pretty convenient. This business leans on their "marketing practice," which as near as I can tell is a breach of the FTC's CARS rule. With all of this information in hand we decided that this place was not the proper venue to do business with as we weren't even able to do a test drive with the vehicle, another practice that is unheard of in any establishment that we have ever been to. When we arrived and asked about the test drive they stated that we needed to get pre-approval first in order to do that and then while they're walking you through the process the test drive doesn't even come up. Another thing I would like to add to this is that my wife was handed paperwork showing what the payments would be l based on a $2,000 deposit or a $4,000 deposit and she determined that the payments monthly for the $4,000 deposit would pay in excess of the value of the vehicle listed which they were also confronted about and we did not receive a clear answer on that. We decided to take our business elsewhere, we do not plan on going back to this business and in fact we'll dissuade anybody possibly considering it. Last but not least I noticed that they lean on this marketing practice by placing additional information in the description and the description also reads that people can get a vehicle paying as low as less than 3% interest. We both have good credit and we're even told by the sales associate that nobody is getting anything less than 10% interest....
Read moreI'm sure I'll get gaslit by this response by the owner, but here goes -
Two stars only because Maria, who fielded my request about the car, and Jonathan, who helped us look at the actual car, were angels and super patient. I do not have a personal issue with any of the staff, but I do have an issue with their marketing.
Strike one - I was told I'd need to be pre-approved to even drive the car I drove over an hour to see. The lot is jam packed and not conducive to test drives. What the f do you mean I need to be pre-approved first, I don't even know if the car works. 💀 Running up the miles in a car comes with the territory for used car dealerships, be for real.
Strike 2 - I'm approved for the loan, but I realized too late that this dealership works with subprime banks that are used to taking people with questionable credit. I purchased a car, my Lexus, almost two years ago, and understand financing. I get the interest rates are kind of wild right now, so it's not their fault. HOWEVER, they were not upfront with the breakdown in fees. It felt like I was just expected to sign and not question what I'm signing. Nope, not happening. Come to find out they tacked on a 2k warranty I didn't want, and never wanted. They tried to tell me the loan would be denied if I tried to take it off. I told them I don't want the car then. (I received a call from them maybe 30 minutes after I left telling me they were "able" to remove the warranty.)
Strike 3- their pricing is deceptive. The $13,500 car I was looking at was really $15,500 and they also tried to gaslight me about that being in the listing. You putting it in the listing doesn't make it any less shady? Anything can be any price with any down payment. Why not just make it $8000 after a $7500 down payment. 💀 Again, I was made to feel like I shouldn't be questioning those terms.
I walked out without the car I thought would be mine for years, so I'm bummed. Nobody was unkind, but the marketing left a very bad taste in my mouth.
Edit: now one star because they will not stop calling me. I have no interest in any of your cars or your "marketing". Leave me alone.
The Highlander listing was $13,499 and I got baited and switched for $15,499 per the description. I checked out the price today and it went up to $15,999...

I literally woke up Monday morning not knowing which car I would be walking away with but then I made one call and got a hold of Qussai told him which car I was interested in to come and look at. I told him I was doing a trade in and that I am coming from Philly and he was so patient with me as I was driving on my way to his dealership. We kept communicating with each other thru the phone and text as i kept giving him my ETA on when I would arrive due to the traffic i was late than expected but when I arrived he was so nice and then I met his amazing partner who is Diego!! Diego was the person that actually closed the deal with me and did all my info and helped me find a great bank for my loan. I received a great deal and learned a lot that day just from financing my first vehicle. I couldn’t thank them enough but BIG thanks to Diego!! He really made the process so smooth I was still able to make it to my hair appointment I was so scared it would talk all day.
