Further update: Repeated instances where the roast duck seller inside the market sold semi-rotten duck forced me to take a star off the review. Be aware - if the duck was sold by noon, there's a chance it was from the day before, and they don't care if it's turning bad and will sell it. One time I microwaved, smelled and tasted it being bad, I went to return it. The customer service did allow the return after checking to make sure that it smelled weird after microwaving (they didn't really think it smelled funny but trusted me anyhow without tasting it). 2nd time recently same thing happened (after the price hike too), I didn't want to return because it was kinda a hassle to go through the process, so I tried to eat more of it. Wasn't a good decision. Best not to buy from them unless you are certain the duck looks like made that day.
Update: I must note that their customer service also improved significantly with dedicated staff that're quite helpful. They also added a customer loyalty program. Their prices were slightly better than Ranch 99 in a number of things (snacks, ribs etc).
A big selection for all East Asian customers or anyone who loves Asian food. There's cooked food and roast duck sections. There's a tiny food court outside with milk tea and Korean/Chinese takeout food. After moving from the previous smaller store to here, they expanded their selection while still keeping prices relatively low. They're thriving and making the store looking cleaner and better. The customer service was also improving. Overall I hope they keep thriving as they're the closest and biggest Asian foods...
Read moreAs former veteran Plainsboro residents, we are well familiar with the Asian Food Market since its former location days, next to Crown of India.
The assortment is overwhelming. There are endless shelves dedicated to millions of varieties of ramen noodles only and crates filled with packages of unfamiliar (in the US) snacks and displays of exotic fruit. The section of the popular imitation crab sticks leaves you wondering about their differences. The truth is, if you are not well versed in the Asian food and its intricacies, it's close to impossible to comprehend many of the products on the display. The translation on the store's price tags doesn't really help. The best possible shopping experience would necessitate bringing a friend with good knowledge of the Asian food. Without proper explanation, even the vegetable sections would be an unsolved mystery for you.
The prices are great for certain items and not so great for others, compared to the chain supermarkets.
The register lines are not terrible. The English language level among the employees is mostly acceptable.
There is a food court consisting of several vendors (Thai Gourmet, Gong Cha, The Pastry and Coffee Room, and Sol Pot, among other options), right before the registers.
In addition, there is an Asian gift and souvenir store right by the entrance area. It offers traditional ceramics, electric water fountains, "Hello Kitties", many arts and crafts objects, as well as all kinds of carved or glass figurines, decorative plates, framed art, Chinese vases, etc. We were told that the store is not a part of the Asian...
Read moreI'm hesitant to leave this review, but I do think it's my responsibility to let people know what happened before they go. I was denied service because of my skin color. (Im a biracial black woman) Though they were apologetic for treating me this way I was made to feel very uncomfortable, and was given the same excuse that it was a misunderstanding and the man who denied service didn't speak English even though he replied to me in English not once but twice. And apologized in English as well. It was only when my boyfriend (Asian American male) complained that they then took me seriously and offered their services.
I will say the staff and the man apologized however they took no accountability. I do not want them to loose there jobs I just hope that moving forward they are kinder to all races regardless of skin color.
We have been going there for years and they have a wonderful selection of Filipino products. I'm sad I can't go there anymore, I never want to feel like that again or be brought to tears in a public place. My family and friends are Asian and they have never treated me this way. This should not be...
