As someone who recently moved to Texas I was eager to explore the various masjids and communities, and EPIC held very high hopes and expectations. But unfortunately I was severely let down. I attempted to establish myself in the community several times, but did not feel welcomed at all. The worst and final time, was very recently during the current holy month of Ramadan. I work late nights, so I only had very limited days that I could attend Taraweeh prayers and Qiyam. I decided to spend my only available odd night at EPIC. While the prayer itself was fine, I moved myself upstairs when the crowd had dispersed, to be more comfortable, with the full intention to spend my entire night there. However that was quickly ruined as all the women there and I were told the entire upstairs/sisters section was closing at the time, which I found to be very strange especially during Ramadan/last 10days but I didn't say much at the time, as the females still had some space downstairs as the lecture was still proceeding at that point. So again, I made myself as comfortable as I could and listened to the lecture, with the same intention of staying the night there. However as soon as the lecture finished at 1am, again, all the women were told we all needed to leave the masjid. When I asked where I can go to continue with my prayers and duas, I was told sisters would not be allowed back until after 3am. When I pressed harder stating I was a single female, my car was parked very far away and I had no place to wait until then, I was met with a dismissal apology but no actual assistance in my issue. I was even more angered when I witnessed the large crowd of men/brothers who were not told they had to leave, and they even had a whole room open for them to sleep in sleeping bags and everything. Frustrated I walked out into the cold night of 40degrees with only my abaya and hijab to keep me warm, and proceeded to walk to my car that was parked very far, in the dark by myself. However after making my way to the extended parking that had been established, I learned the whole fence was locked off with 3 locks and there was no way around it. The only other way was to walk towards the highway to get to the other entrance, which was even more dangerous. After walking back to the masjid, again I asked for help and proceeded to receive none. As stated earlier I recently moved to Texas by myself, so I had very limited options to get me out of this situation. After making some calls thankfully one of the few friends I made through Qalam/Roots was able to make the drive to EPIC and drop me off at my car. While I waited for my friend arrive, I was forced to wait outside in the cold until her arrival, which did take 30mins, as females were not allowed in. Very irritated at the whole situation, I ended up just going back home where I attempted to make the most of what was left of my only odd night not working. I still feel deeply saddened, disrespected and discarded at everything that happened at EPIC. Women and sisters play an integral role at any masjid, but it was evident EPIC does not agree with that. I will never be returning to this masjid, and will forewarn anyone who thinks about going here as well, especially if you are female. I pray things get better after I leave this review, which I believe is the only way I can voice my concerns...
Read moreThe “East Plano Islamic Center” or EPIC is an influential masjid that contains fundamental architectural and engineering components. The middle upper dome, the two circular arches that are each positioned opposite from each other, near the left and right opposite ends of the mosque. The left-end round arch is equal to the right-end one in height, and the former is of a greater width than the latter. Moreover, the upper mosque dome contains clerestory windows lining the comprehensive lower portion, in the middle, while the windows follow the circumference of it.
Any of this is of the additionally-mentioned dome with a spherical top; cylindrically-middle region and flatly-circular bottom base. 4thly, both of these 2 mentioned arches are closely-surrounded by rectangular: architectural-outline: parts—about which is a series of rectangular parts at both sides that end at an outwardly-extending rectangular pier—so, the complete entirety of these architectural factors comprise a groin vault. Fifthly and last but not least—there is an observable barrel vault where the previously-mentioned cylindrical middle region of the dome owing to it being a half cylinder; one of the three Greek capitals as the above Monotheistic building of worship is not a Greek building with Greek engineering qualities—mostly on the inside and outside. Nor is or are there most of the other civil-engineering qualities on the outside of this angular side of the Masjid; some of them are however present inside of it: including the Mihrab inside of the prayer hall, the horseshoe arches in there; and maybe some of the other componential-engineering elemental factors at the “Architectural Scavenger Hunt” webpage-enumeration including the balustrade, rotunda and more rounded arches. These rounded arches are more inwardly-protruding above the previously-mentioned Mihrab inside the prayer hall where the Imam leads the five daily prayers: all seven days of the week. Finally, there is no Minaret or minaret observed anywhere above this Masjid as there is only a flatly-circular shape built slightly protruding upward above this religious-worship location’s worship dome.
This is called a Cobba--as and that is a Kobba--or a Qobba, all in Arabic; not a ritual requirement as the Mihrab is and as contains significance in the Masjid. This is because the Cobba dome in question; being referred to—is a symbolic representation of the vault of Heaven or Jannah in Islam. This is as is compared to the mini-Minaret that can be observed on top of a hemisphere, that is above the Plano-Masjid dome at the West-Plano location. The iron bars at the top location of the dome are curvingly-protruding from the center of it to the different location-based; and the location-accentuated; points. These ones: or points: are about, and around, or of its absolutely-complete circumference.
