UPDATE Oct 2020. We're back. It was great meal again. Still practicing virus precautions. Scan QR code with your phone to download menu. The beans served with meal were the best. Not the usual refried mess. OooRah! Yes they are open (Jul 2020) for indoor dining or out on the patio. Too hot now outside for us. We don't come here often unless we have errands on the east side of Plano. But I am glad we did during the virus crises. Lots of virus precautions being taken. Customers and staff must wear a mask for now. Tables separated. For now you scan the menu with camera phone which takes you to website with menu. If no phone or doesn't work they will bring a regular menu. The wait staff was very attentive to our needs. Food served fast and hot. We got left overs. Worth another visit sooner than later even if we don't have errands to run in area.UPDATE Jul 2020. OooRah! Yes they are open for indoor dining or out on the patio. Too hot now outside for us. Worth another visit sooner than later even if we don't have errands to run in area. First visit (2013) based on Internet recommendations. Surprising good and worth the drive from west Plano, TX. The chips and tortilla were different than usually offered at Tex-Mex restaurants and made the meal worthwhile. We plan to go back for another meal. UPDATE Third or 4th visit as of Mar 2014. First time on Sunday lunch. good size crowd at noon. Service was slower than before which I think was caused by larger crowd. We usually have been there on Sat. UPDATE Sep 2016. Finally got back again. Too much competition for a share of our hungry stomachs in Collin county. Had excellent meal and attentive service for weekday lunch hour. Food served very hot. New location in Plano, see photo....
Read moreThis review is for their greedy takeout practices.
I've tried to make this work for 2 years. But I'm officially breaking up w Casa Mama.
Goodbye, greedy restaurant. Goodbye, $5.99 kids quesadilla that doesn't include rice or beans. (I thought it was a mistake, so I called and asked. Confirmed that the kids quesadilla does not include rice or beans. $5.99 for literally some cheese sandwiches between two small tortillas; pictured) Goodbye, $7.50 half filled bowl of soup (again, no sides. Just almost $8.00 for the half bowl of soup. Pictured) Goodbye, $6.99 queso in a tiny cup. (Pictured) Goodbye, cheap frozen margaritas that are not happy hour prices when ordering takeout at happy hour. Goodbye FOREVER, greeeedy salsa policy. The picture in this review with the hand? That is literally all you get when you order chips and salsa to go. Like thats it. Dare you ask for more?? They charge you $6.00 for more. And guys... they don't even warn you. They just add $6.00 and give it to you with a straight face, as if this isn't both mildly hilarious and an insult to your customers intelligence all at the same time?
Casa Mama y'all are out here acting like you're the only Mexican food restaurant?? Noooo amigo. Y'all are the equivalent of a neighbothood sushi restaurant in Japan: a dime a dozen.
With your greedy take-out practices, coupled with the sheer amount of Mexican food options within a 10 mile radius of y'all, it's just bad business.
But I'm pretty sure I'm not the first customer or the first review to say all this. Which shows me, y'all have decided y'all are gonna do you. Do it, boo.
But as for me?...
Read moreWe haven’t been to Casa Mama in a couple of years, not for any specific reason other than there are more places closer and just as good (from previous experience there). Today, based on the recommendation of a friend, we revisited with positive expectations. Boy, were we disappointed. The service was the worst part. It was about 2:30 and they weren’t even busy. The server was un-attentive at best. We had to flag the manager down a couple of times, who even realizing we were not getting good service, was almost as unavailable. Drinks - I ordered a beer-rita ($14 by the way) and it came out with half a pour of frozen margarita and ⅔ of my beer (a small Coronita) being already added. So it was already mostly beer and melting. If you drink beer-ritas, then you know this is not normal. My wife’s unsweet tea tasted old, like it was made in a dirty coffee maker. The “Queso de Casa” for $7 was more like a small cup. And the corn tortillas we ordered, one of the looked molded. The Sanchez fajitas were literally 3 pieces of chicken, 3 pieces of steak (1 way overcooked) and 2 shrimp. And back to the service….we tried to flag down our server multiple times, even watching him eat his lunch at the bar, never making eye contact. We were out of salsa, the first batch of chips the brought us was stale, etc. Then when the check came, the server was all nice and congenial. And yes, I was going to say something to the manager on the way out the door, but he was nowhere to be found. ...
