Liberty tree park is a good lap-walking park. It has a few water fountains, a gazebo and a pavilion you can rent, and a public (usually well maintained) restroom. There is a decent sized play ground for kids and a slightly separate area for toddlers.
Parking fits about 120 cars if you get them organized in the grass surrounding the park on the south, east and north sides. Although this is a nice area of Plantation, there are frequent car break-ins. Be sure to leave your valuables at home.
The park has in recent years become a popular spot for Pokemon Go players with its 3 gyms and more than 10 pokestops in a 1/3 mile circuit to get your double.
Some drawbacks are that for the size of the park, there is very little cover. The trees give decent shade where needed, but when it rains, the only real shelter is the pavilion which is on the clear opposite side from the playground. Another turn off is that this is almost exclusively a path walking park. Other than the playground area, the grass is kept too long for soccer, football, or any other field requiring activity. Additionally, the grass is seeding for half the year, which means walking in it covers your shoes and socks in green (staining) boogers. The park has little or no lighting at night, so even though it can be accessed 24/7, it's a dusk to dawn facility. Lastly, and arguably most importantly, there are the squirrels... if you're reading this and you haven't been there, don't take it lightly. The squirrels will attack your kids if you don't intervene.
All in all it's a good park for walking, jogging, supervised playground time for kids, and...
Read moreLiberty Tree Park, now known as Rae Carol Armstrong Liberty Tree Park (gosh that is a mouthful) is one of the best parks in the City of Plantation. My kids grew up at this park. Located off 5th street , matter of fact the park used to be known as “5th Street Park”, it has undergone three name changes. The park is both Dog Friendly and Pedestrian Friendly.
This park has a genuinely nice children playground that is shaded with large mature trees. This is important to me and has several benches to sit down.
The park is a good size, now double in size since when the City of Plantation acquired the Elks Club back in the early 2000’s .
There are nice walking trails and bathroom facilities too. Along the walking trails and surrounding the Gazebo you will find dedication bricks throughout. A brick can be personalized and installed for approximately $125.00.
The squirrels that live there never go hungry as I see people all the time feeding them peanuts. If you are in the area, Rae Carol Armstrong Liberty Tree Park is absolutely...
Read moreThe City of Plantation should be embarrassed about the condition of the bathrooms. Took my 4 y/o into the men's and the condition made me want to puke. The city has the playground equipment roped off /closed when they should have roped / closed this bathroom. The toilet is stopped up, filled with feces and toilet paper. The urinal is no better, and both look as though they haven't been cleaned since 2020. Even worse is the fact that even if the facility was clean, the urinal and toilet are both adult sized. I guess the powers that be , don't know that little kids/toddlers need to use a restroom too. (And yes I know that when bathrooms are open to the general public, messes will made by the masses. But this is across the street from City Hall and the Police Department. Step up your game Plantation. Keep your bathrooms clean...
