New India Bazaar is our grocery store of choice for all things Indian. We moved to Dublin recently from Sunnyvale and one of the things we missed was an equivalent of the "India Cash and Carry" store on El Camino. The few Indian stores that we visited were almost lacking in some thing or the other. Not so with this store. This store features fresh vegetables and fruits and also a variety of read-to-eat Indian stuff (refrigerated and other dry stuff). Plus the great part of this store is that it is clean and big, something that most other stores in the immediate vicinity lack. Shopping is easy here. As is everything in the Bay area, weekends are perhaps a wrong time to be in this store given the huge number of people who come here, but weekdays are a breeze. The staff is helpful and polite. You almost have everything you require and cant recollect a single instance where we wanted some stuff and we could not get it.
Apart from groceries and readymade stuff-to-eat, this store also has utensils that anyone growing in India is familiar too. The store can improve in stocking these utensils, but then in all the months that I have been there, I have never seen anyone buying these utensils so perhaps the management is aware of this.
In short, if you are looking to buy fresh groceries, pulses, grains, flour and other Indian food, this is the place that you want to go in the Dublin-Pleasanton area. I am fairly certain that you will not be disappointed. The only thing that I am not sure is cost and how they compare it to "ICC". But then again, most of our grocery purchases that we do once a week is limited to a few 10s of dollars. Frankly, it doesnt matter whether we save or lose a...
Read moreI had an amazing experience with New India Bazaar, both as a go-to Indian grocery store and a provider of freshly prepared food. I had ordered a full tray of veg pulav for a 5 PM pickup, and everything—from the coordination to the taste—was simply outstanding.
First and foremost, a huge heartfelt thank you to Chef Gurmeetsingh Uncle. The veg pulav was absolutely delicious — perfectly cooked rice, aromatic spices, and that authentic home-style flavor that’s hard to find. You could truly taste the love and experience in every bite and it was clear that great care went into preparing the dish. Our guests loved it!
Also, thank you to Disha for coordinating the order so smoothly over the phone. She was polite, helpful, and made the process seamless.
I was also really impressed by the professionalism of the service. I received a confirmation call around 10 AM on the day of the pickup, and then another call around 4:50 PM to inform me that my order was ready — right on time. That kind of attention to detail is rare and truly appreciated.
Big, big thank you to the entire New India Bazaar team for such an excellent experience. I’ll definitely be returning and already recommended your services...
Read moreA half lifetime ago I visited Nepal and the Himalayas where I acquired a fondness for many food specialties of the Subcontinent and the warm smiling faces of the people I met there. Fast forward several decades and I was delighted to find many of my favorite foods on the shelves at this store. On weekends this store serves complimentary chai (spiced tea) that tastes so much like what my sherpa guides made for me on the base camp trek that it occurs to me to ask the store's owner whether he keeps a yak in the back room (for yak milk).
Oddly this store reminds me of a grocery store my father ran in the bay area more than half a century ago---not in terms of what is sold there (my father was not Indian) but rather in terms of the personalized service customers receive from the employees who work there.
Fruits and veggies from the store are the best in Pleasanton. Good selections of frozen items. A couple of requests if I may though. Please order plenty of Amil spiced buttermilk and Chaokoh coconut water as I have a tendency to buy everything on the shelf when I am...
