Movie Theater Review: B&B Theaters, Portland
Movie Watched: Deadpool and Wolverine
Overall Rating: ★★★☆☆
Picture and Sound Quality: ★★★★★ The picture and sound quality were excellent. The immersive audio made every scene come to life, and the visuals were sharp and clear.
Seating Comfort: ★★★★★ The seats were outstanding—like recliners on steroids. There was ample legroom, and the heated seat option added an extra level of comfort that made the viewing experience highly enjoyable.
Cleanliness: ★★★★☆ The theater's cleanliness was impressive and above average compared to other theaters I've visited. Everything felt tidy and well-maintained.
Staff Service: ★★☆☆☆ The bartender was super polite and personable, enhancing the experience. However, the manager on duty was less impressive, particularly in handling post-movie concerns.
Concessions: ★★★☆☆ The food was good but nothing extraordinary. We had the standard popcorn, candy, and soda. However, the soda lid was flimsy and popped off multiple times, almost causing spills.
Unique Features: ★★★★☆ The theater has been newly remodeled and is quite spacious. A standout feature is a room with wrap-around screens, which adds a unique twist to the movie-watching experience.
Overall Experience: While the theater has many positives, our experience was marred by a significant issue: a family brought a toddler and an infant to an R-rated movie, resulting in continuous crying and noise throughout the film. This severely disrupted our viewing experience. The parents' attempt to silence the child with a light-up toy only added to the disturbance.
When we addressed the issue with the manager, we were disappointed by the response. The manager mentioned that children are allowed in R-rated movies up until 6 PM. Despite our movie starting at 6, the disruptive children were allowed to stay, which is unacceptable for an adult-oriented film. This policy and its poor enforcement significantly detracted from our overall experience.
Recommendation: We likely won't be returning to B&B Theaters in Portland due to this lack of intervention and enforcement of appropriate audience behavior. It's frustrating to pay for a movie and have the experience ruined by disruptive behavior that the management failed to address adequately. Shame on the family for bringing their young children to an R-rated movie and shame on B&B Theaters for allowing it. We expected a better experience and hope the theater reconsiders its policies for the benefit of its paying customers.
P.S. It's policy to silence our cell phones 📵 but not the...
Read moreDecember 2023: updated review. 4 months later, after the remodel. It got worse!!! So the remodel is nice, that is where it stops. The new attractive food menu is great but be prepared to wait a long time for the food. We went in early and the theater did not seem busy. Sat in theater for about 20 minutes and the buzzer box they gave us for the food to let us know when it was ready to be picked up had yet to alert us of the food being ready. The movie had just begun so I went to the counter to check on it and a few other patrons were also curious as to where their orders were. What seemed to be a manager told us that they had a bunch of orders and were behind. Again...this place was not really busy. The cooks in the back did not look very busy. I was told my order was next to be completed. 5 minutes later two of my three orders came out, was told the onion rings were being cooked. Another 10 minutes just standing there waiting for my food and missing the beginning of my movie, the rest of my order was handed to me and the girl just walked away knowing I had been waiting a long time. No apology for the lateness, didn't even care. I asked why no apology, she said, "oh yha, sorry". I didn't realize at the time, as I was now trying to get back and salvage the movie which I already missed important plot points, but the onion rings that took 40 minutes to get and made me miss almost 20 minutes of the movie were burned, they were absolutely terrible and inedible. Was so frustrated, had to leave the theater and ask for them to be replaced, which they did, but again, no apology.
As far as the theater itself goes. Nice remodel. But the audio in the theater prior to the movie starting having turrets, it was constantly really low or really high, was annoying. There was also a speaker above my head that had a bad cone or something because it was very crackly.
It is apparent all of the money for the remodel was in the chairs and none of it was on employee training. It would have been really easy for them to offer a consolation for the inconvenience, even a bag of popcorn or something could have cooled down the growing anger, but no attempt was made to make it right. I wont be back.... way better ways to drop 100 bucks.
August 2023: First time here. Popcorn flavor was not good. Seats were comfortable. Some of the overhead lamps did not turn off for the film. Not sure if it was on purposes or not but the whole English movie had...
Read moreIf you are in Corpus, its not worth the drive, save yourself gas and money and just go to Century 16 or Alamo Drafthouse. We drove in from Corpus to check out the new theater’s “Screen X” Grand Screen to watch Godzilla x Kong. I was so excited to experience something new at the movies with such a big screen, just to find out once the movie started that the Screen X screens were NOT even working. No notice when buying the tickets, the staff didn’t even mention it when we checked in at the front and bought food. If I knew that those screens weren’t working, I would have saved gas and money by just watching the movie at Century 16. Once the movie started and I noticed that it was just a regular screen, I went out to ask a staff member why the screens were not working and was told that those screens have not been working and that my ticket prices were reduced because of it. ??? Nowhere online did it say that my ticket prices got reduced because the screens are not working. At that point I just went back inside to watch the movie because I had already drove 30 minutes to get there and had already spent $70+ on the tickets and food. From what I can see on other reviews here a lot of things seem to NOT WORK at this theater which is disappointing to hear for such a “newly renovated” theater. I don’t think I will ever make the effort to come to this theater again because who knows what won’t be working the next time I come.
Also, the staff is not the friendliest, they seemed annoyed to even be there and annoyed that I even asked why the screens weren’t working. On the other hand, the food wasn’t bad and the seats were comfortable but its not enough to make me want to...
