Best escape room ever. We've tried dozens of rooms in multiple countries.
We took a gamble driving 15+ minutes outside downtown Portland - and it was well worth it. We've done dozens of escape rooms in several countries, and this - without a doubt - is the best. From the staff to the quality of the rooms, construction, and puzzles.
The first room we tried was Secrets of Nibiru. It was well-constructed, and the puzzles were well thought out. The question we always ask ourselves - whether we can get out or not - is, "does everything make sense?". The answer was a definite yes. It was fair, and the story was cohesive with the clues. We've done escape rooms where they've had to cut multiple locks because combinations did not work. But the puzzles here were very well balanced; not too easy, not too hard. We loved it so much, and their staff was so great, we tried the Pharaoh's Lost Relic which is the prequel to the Secrets of Nibiru the next morning before we left. It did not disappoint.
Without going into detail, it was by a clear mile, the best escape room we've ever done. It is very clear that they took years to construct this room; everything was well thought out, the mechanics were well balanced, the puzzles were fair and cohesive with the story, and it was just an all-around excellent room. It is definitely not easy, but the story and the entire escape room is built so well, we cannot recommend it enough for enthusiasts.
If you are in Portland, want to do an escape room and have time to do only one or two things, we would strongly recommend both of these escape rooms. Beware - you will set a VERY high standard for future escape rooms.
To cap it off, the staff were enthusiastic and passionate. I cannot recommend this...
Read moreThis is THE escape room to beat. With doing the Crypt of Shadows, we finished every escape room at this spot. Every room is excellent (technical and design wise) in its own way, and I like that all the puzzle components are one time use. I will say that you can definitely tell which rooms are newer and which ones are older - the newer Crypt of Shadows and Pharoahs Lost Relic definitely showcase in how they use their creativity and newer/ more elaborate tech. But it doesnt retract from their classics, as one of my favorites is the Assassins Deadly Game. I don't think the themes are extremely unique, but their execution of said themes are immaculate. If youre in Portland and you're looking for an escape challenge, this would be my FIRST recommendation. I have nothing but admiration for the team here, they have all been stellar people to talk to. My only regret is having no more rooms to do! They have a small parking lot on location with doors that open 15 minutes before your reservation. The front lobby itself sells sodas, drinks, and puzzles that you can take home to the family. They also provide a key for a locker you can keep your things in during the room (the lockers have USBc/ microusb/ iPhone charging...
Read moreI’ve done around 50 escape rooms across multiple states, and I can say without hesitation: Hour to Midnight Escape Rooms is in a league of its own. Five stars aren’t even close—this place deserves its own galaxy.
We played Assassin’s Deadly Game and my brain is still trying to catch up. This wasn’t just an escape room—it was a full-blown action movie you get to star in. We’re talking things exploding, drawers flying open, remote control cars setting off chain reactions, guns with real-feel magazines—it was absolute, immersive madness in the BEST way possible.
And to top it off? Our Game Master was the owner—a fantastic guy who clearly pours his heart into every detail. He was fun, attentive, and kept the experience flowing seamlessly while making us feel totally immersed and challenged.
Every puzzle was brilliantly crafted, every mechanism worked perfectly, and the production value was just beyond. I’ve never seen anything like it—not in any state, not in any room.
Hands down the best escape room experience I’ve ever had. If you’re into escape rooms, this is your holy grail. And if it’s your first time? Prepare to be ruined for life—this is the...
