BRAVO!!! WOW, My mother and I stopped by Baskin Robbins and decided we'd take our ice cream over to the interesting-looking park that we just passed.
THE GATEWAY DISCOVERY PARK is a winning urban park!
This is one INCREDIBLE, TACTILE, BEAUTIFUL Park!!! And great for ANY AGE! We haven't even seen the whole scope of it and are completely IMPRESSED!
THANKS to all of the dedicated & involved people and entities that got this dream to become a reality!
Great GEM for the neighborhood!
Yours Truly,

P.S. I just have to comment that there ALWAYS seems to be one negative ninny that has to turn a beautiful thing into something negative. And this is directed towards him: I'm sorry you had difficulty today in picking up your disabled friend, I know that can be frustrating. But, try if you're able, to step back a bit and look at the bigger picture....it was a CELEBRATION of many things, an incredible park infused into a park- needy area, it is a testament to a myriad of personal, political, neighborhood and business efforts that brought this gift to fruition. And we are blessed for this. And might I remind you that this park is public, is not a gated-community park only accessed by the local neighborhood, it is open to any and all people to come and enjoy! And as such, sometimes people like to recognize those efforts by celebrating! You may want to check the park's schedule of events prior to coming to your friends in the future and allow a bit more time. And, PLEASE, don't worry about gentrification, as this park is a nothing but a BENEFIT to the area! Save the poo-poos for something worth whining about. In other words, get a life! And,...
Read moreGateway Discovery Park is one of Portland's new playground/community space that included a water area, skateboarding attraction, large open grassy spaces, sandpit for creative play, public restrooms, and so much more! It even has workout equipment! It offers something for everyone, for all abilities and ages. We've been here during the day and at night. During the day, it can get busy and with it being a new park, the tress are still small with little shade but in 5 to 10 years, it will be full of wonderful shady spots. The lighting at night is good for a public park. You can see across the park, from any end. One of the highlights for the kiddos is the AstroTurf hill, they enjoy sliding down on cardboard so bring your Costco box and be ready to watch them slide down with glee. During the day, in the summer at least, they have activities such as a huge chess set & a connect four. They also have a piano to play on. One of my favorite features at all the newer PDX parks are the xylophones. As someone who does not know how to play any instruments, I can still create something beautiful with the...
Read moreStop creating events where you have to shut down the streets. People live in that area. What if emergency vehicles need to get into that area. Your slowing them down by turning something beautiful into some sort of corporate hipster cash cow event. I didn't need anyone to drive me to the park when I was a kid. I walked there myself. Today there were cars parked all around the park for many surrounding blocks. What happened to going to the park in your own neighborhood??? If your own park sucks then maybe it needs some remodeling. Stop the gentrification. Don't turn this into some sort of amusement park. It's just a park. I was trying to pick up my disabled friend who lives across the street from the park and I had to drive through a parade of kids and bicycles. No other way to get to my friend and I was treated like some kind of monster. Your going to become hated by the locals if you continue events like this. Or maybe someone may just decide to drive over all the people in an extremely...
