Wonderful trail in Portland that sets a perfect example of combining nature and urban life in a practical way. It is well loved by walkers, runners, cyclists alike, and I have been running there almost every week. During weekdays, you see people commuting through this corridor to get between SE Portland and the central area; during the weekend, tons of people walk, run or ride to take advantage of its beautiful view and quietness. A detour from the trail takes you to dirt trails in Oaks Bottom Nature Refuge which is a great place (and even quieter) to visit. Read moreI used to ride my bike on this trail when I lived in Milwaukie. It feels safe from the OMSI area out until about SE Johnson Creek and Bell Street, after which I won't venture anymore. It used to feel like I was just riding near my unhoused neighbors (heck, I used to stop and chat with them, pet their cats and such), but these days, the middle is just a long stretch of homeless camps full of anger and aggression. I'd say the camp extends roughly 2 miles in either direction from I-205. It's a policy failure on the city's part to not be doing more for these folks.
