Ok I'll bite. This MHB outpost is a bit far from the 4,000-ft slopes where the beer originates, but they've done the role of urban cafe in spectacular fashion.
Let's begin with the space, it's quaint and romantic all while being in an industrial area turning transit hub. Self serve cucumber water (delicious) and plates make for the cafe vibe, but I like the way they've prepared napkin utensil rolls. Not far off from the Oregon Rail Heritage Museum and OMSI, and great for cyclists just wish there were more places to lock up. Parking is shared with the bldg in a small lot off Caruthers St.
Next, the pizza is artisan style and wood-stove fired, but comes out soggy & floppy in the middle. The condiments are in adorable jars with wooden spoons, and I love it. No ranch, ask for the caesar and pretend it's vegan ranch.
The conservas are a special and seemingly overlooked aspect of this spot. They found some nice spanish preserved seafoods like mussels, octopus and sardines. Served with a lone, dry lemon slice. The aioli was delightful with the crackers and octopus. Overall I would recommend serving the cans over ice to cool the fish just slightly. The fork is charming.
The beer is good, either you like Mount Hood Brewing Co. or not. There's not any other alcohol here. I'm sure their Cascadian or seasonal will...
Read moreSorry to write this review as it’s been a family favorite for so long after bike rides and OMSI visits. One of the front-facing workers there, a white male with dark blonde hair, was very short with us when placing orders on 1/21/2024, but we let it go. We were two families with five year olds and we physically observed sighs and headshakes and all of the non-verbals that would convince you that your kids were just not welcome. When I approached the wait staff to discuss this, diplomatically, he completely ignored me and just refused to speak with me. This upset my spouse, who went on to try to speak with the waitstaff. We were subsequently screamed at by the wait staff and asked to leave. Our boys cried in fear. An African American coworker (and the pizza chef, as he was cooking), approached us to calm the situation and explain that his out of control colleague has a mother that is sick and unwell, to offer explanation for the poor behavior of his coworker. Still inexcusable. Will be calling management today to discuss this matter. Very sad to miss this place, as it is no longer family-friendly and hires unstable people that get their 18% tip up front for...
Read moreI really like both Mt Hood brewing locations and have always had good experiences at both. This one is within walking distance of the Tilikum bridge and OMSI. My friends and I went to dinner at Mt Hood before going to OMSI after dark.
The only downside is they only had one person running the whole place. This poor man was taking orders, serving drinks, prepping and cooking the food, and serving it. He mentioned he had been working the whole day by himself. This is just unacceptable, especially during dinner time. The line was understandably backed up and it took quite a while just to get our drinks. Honestly if I was that guy I would've bounced before doing all of that work myself. I'm not sure if he's the owner, but if not I feel like that's just an unacceptable position to put your staff in.
When the pizza came out it was delicious as always. My friend and I shared the Tilikum and really enjoyed it. I will keep coming here because I like the food and beer, but I hope they get the staffing issues under...
