Great haircuts, great price!
I moved to NH three years ago from out of state but continued traveling home to get my hair cut at a trusted salon. Until this year, when I discovered the school, and I travel no longer!
I have wavy hair that I like to switch up between short and medium length, with a low-maintenance, layered cut that encourages my natural wave. I like a cute cut, but also pretty, and somewhere between modern and classic. It can be difficult to cut properly because of its wave and thickness, nor do I always like the style that some stylists have cut it in before.
So when I saw a friend with a similar hair type rocking an AMAZING new cut, and she told me it was from a student at The School, I was convinced to give them a try. I loved the haircut I got from the student (Rachel Starr Davis), and made sure to go back for another one before she graduated, which also turned out perfect. I'm not surprised that she has already landed a great job for after graduation - she's clearly very talented. She recommended a newer student for my next appointment, so I absolutely plan on coming back.
It's insane that these great cuts are only $11, because they are the same or better than $35-$45 cuts I've gotten at much fancier salons. Plus you get the whole treatment, with washing and a blow out and everything. These students are very professional, and they check with their knowledgeable teachers every step of the way - with a haircutting plan at the beginning, and with the final result at the end, as well as during the process if they have any questions or need a little advice. I always feel confident in being treated well there and having a great result. I'm never going anywhere else!
Sometimes cuts take more than an hour, these are students after all so they occasionally trade speed for accuracy, so beware when you schedule that you don't need to rush off to an urgent appointment...
Read moreHi Doris and Genna,
This is what I am sending to Paul Mitchell School in response to their request for feedback.
On March 12, 2025 I took my sister to have her color done at the Paul Mitchell School. These are her words about her experience: When we arrived we were greeted warmly by the receptionist. The space was open with lots of students and instructors working together. I was taken quickly.
Genna was my stylist. She began by asking me what I wanted and listened very carefully to me. While her instructor was coaching her, Genna listened and followed through with the suggestions. She mixed the color that I wanted and took small sections of hair and applied the color exactly to get great coverage. She applied more tint to those pesky hairs around the hairline. She cleaned my skin next to my hair and did everything necessary to get the job done well.
It has been three weeks since my color was done. It hasn’t faded and there aren’t any spots missing color. My hair is growing in just beautifully. Genna was sweet, and throughout the process she talked with me while staying focused on her work. I felt comfortable under her care. As a former hair stylist I can see Genna going far in this field. She is professional, wants to learn and takes her job...
Read moreThe Paul Mitchell school helped me when nobody else would. I had been sick with a virus for a month and ended up with hair madded beyond belief. I found 1 person to help me. But after a 1/2 hour she was pulling so hard she made the knot even tighter. Tanna was my last hope. I had some hope that she would be able to help me. Unfortunately, after a few hours trying to get the knot out, I could see it was useless. My hair was matted right to my head and it didn't matter how many hours trying to get this out. There was no hope. Tanna was gracious enough and let me come to this decision on my own. It wasn't easy, but there was no other solution. Tanna gave me a great haircut. I ended up with a short Bixby. And it's taking some getting used to, but nobody else would have gotten me to where I needed to be. Tanna is a supervisor and Hayden graduates next month. Five huge stars to both women, and Paul Mitchell the school, Portsmouth New Hampshire. The women are trained for numerous hours before they're even allowed to touch a person's head. And the prices are the lowest i've ever seen. Please give them a try. You won't be...
